GA-EG41MF-US2H - W764 - Network Adapter Not Found!?
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:17:08 am »
Can anyone please help me.
I have a GA-EG41MF-US2H, with W7-64 installed.
Everything works fine apart from the Ethernet/Network Socket.
No Network Adapter is visible in the Device Manager!
I have tried numerous drivers for it, including the very latest from Realtek.
During the driver installation, the installer tells me "Device Not Found"....

I have checked the bios and these are correct
•   On Board H/W 1394: [Enabled]
•   On Board H/W Lan : [Enabled]
•   Green Lan: [Disabled]

What can I do to get the bugger working??

Many thanks,
G.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.

Have you tried removing the device in Device Manager and then letting Windows find it? Or is there no device at all in DM?

Windows does not see the on board 'Network Adapter' in the Device Manager!
People have reported that Win7 and this board don't get along.
Win7 normally installs the incorrect drivers, but once replaced with the correct Realtek driver,
it works usually works again. But not in my case.
All drivers I have used have had no effect.

In that case as long as you have the correct drivers installed the board must be faulty. I would advise returning it to your retailer for replacement.

Yes thats right,Windows does not see the on board 'Network Adapter' in the Device Manager!
I bought it used off Flebay, i have asked the supplier to send me a Network Adapter seeking as the item is faulty.
Fingers crossed.

That is probably your best course of action in the circumstances.

I have been in-touch with gigabyte who said try this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try to reset the CMOS -
1) Disconnect the power cord from the power supply. Remove the CMOS battery (the flat silver disk) from the motherboard using a srew drive or similar implement. Leave it out for a minute or two, then replace it and power on the system. The BIOS settings should have been reset.
2) Go into the BIOS - “Load optimized default”
3) Save settings and exit.
4) If this doesn’t work then try "Load Failsafe default"
------------------------------------------------------------------------

This will be attempted tomorrow, will let you know the results.

G.

I thought we had already tried that but I was mistaken, that's the trouble with dealing with so many problems at once. :-[

Please try to reset the CMOS -......
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did that work? I think I wish I had thought of it!

I had the same problem with XP - the onboard ethernet card just stopped working all of a sudden, and had even disappeared in the bios (AMI) Tried everything short of bios flash - and removing the backup battery. Wouldn't even show up on a backup harddrive.

So I installed an old harddrive that had Windows 98 installed as boot device- after installing several devices, it recognized the PCI ethernet card, reported no driver - which I couldn't find. It still didn't work, but at least my suspicion that it wasn't really a hardware issue was validated. So... with fingers crossed ..when I reinstalled the original HD with XP - it found the NIC and installed the driver. Violla! Works perfectly once again.
