UD5. Removing stock heatsink without voiding warranty.
« on: July 21, 2009, 03:37:46 pm »
Hello. I wish to remove the heatsinks on the gigabyte UD5 x58 board in order to replace them with better ones. If the board later fails for an unrelated reason, I would still wish to rma it.

Is this possible?

I note that Asus have the policy that nothing has been done to the board, so removing the heatsinks does not void warranty. Lapping the chipset however would void warranty. I wish to know Gigabytes views on this.

Thank you

Jon

Hi Jon

You can change the heatsinks, but before returning to RMA the original ones must be installed.
If the MB is damaged somehow during installation or removing of non-original heatsink, the warranty will be void.

Hell yes. That is exactly what I was hoping for, there's a beautiful set of ek blocks out there with my name on it.

Cheers guys

edit: Yeah, if I break it while taking the heatsinks off, or pour water all over it that serves me right and I won't waste time trying for an rma :)

Will post pics this weekend when i do my build.  I only have the mosfet blocks, didnt see the need for the nb/sb block since i have a enziotech block for the nb already.  Hopefully this board will work with my 4850x2's, current MSI Platinum board refuses to run em in quadfire @ all......
