UNABLE TO ENTER BIOS OF A G31M ES2L MOTHERBOARD
« on: January 04, 2011, 09:12:52 pm »
Hi,

I am trying to enter the BIOS of a G31M ES2L motherboard. However when I press delete it skips past the BIOS and continues to load the OS. I have tried removing the battery...which changes nothing and I have tried covering the CMOS clear jumpers again nothing happens.  I have tried attaching a new hard drive to install a fresh OS but whilst it recognises the drive being there it still wont allow me to enter BIOS or install an OS.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Yes it does sound like maybe the system has been password protected. Firstly I would try clearing the CMOS completely. I know you have tried but do it like this instead and we shall see if that works.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least thirty minutes before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self and then press F10 to save and exit.

Just keep tapping delete when you turn it on, sounds like the splash screen is coming up and you maybe hitting delete too late.

Okay I followed your instructions and left the battery out overnight just to be absolutely sure.  However when I switch the PC back on and press delete it advises that it is preparing to enter BIOS but then skips past it.

Definitely not hitting the DELETE key too late.

Thanks.

Fair enough then. Next we will see if we can kick in the Backup BIOS  instead. The only thing is if it does work it might be a much older version and you will have to do a BIOS update afterwards. I would advise downloading the latest BIOS update for your motherboard first.

You can kick in the Backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.

Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.
