GA-H67MA-UD2H: Unable to install Windows 7 or upgrade BIOS

Hi

Yesterday I finally wanted to install Windows 7 on my self-configured computer with the following hardware components:

Gigabyte GA-H67MA-UD2H
Intel Core i7-2600K
OCZ3RPR1333C9LV16GQ (4x4GB Ram)
OCZ RevoDrive X2 240GB
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB
300W power supply

The Windows 7 installation program started up successfully after the first boot, but I couldn't install the RevoDrive drivers because it wasn't recognized from the board. I played around with different BIOS settings and finally wanted to upgrade to the newest BIOS version for this board (F6). But Q-Flash always said that the new Flashfile is invalid. I tried all the available BIOS versions I found on the net (F3, F4 and F6a). Version F4 was the worst: The computer rebooted automatically after POST. F3 was better, but it crashed right after Windows 7 setup loaded all the files from the DVD.
In the meantime I discovered that the RevoDrive will be detected if it sits in the other PCI-x4 slot. But even if I remove the card Windows setup always crashes.

Unfortunately I neither backuped the original BIOS version nor do I know which version was installed after all.

Why isn't it possible to install the newest BIOS version (F6) with Q-Flash? What should I do to successfull install Windows 7?

Firstly I have to ask.  Why have you bought a top end CPU k type with a H67 chipset.  You do know that these CANNOT overclock even with a K CPU??
Sorry mate but you have just wasted the money on the chip.. But thats my take on things..

Anyways the first place I would look is the 300 watt PSU.  As a rig builder I do not go under 650 and even then that has to be a reliable 650.  Something like the antec Truepower 650.. If you can try another psu (preferably with more wattage) then it might irradicate all of your probs..

I have my reasons why I bought all that stuff. I am running a passive cooled computer with heat pipes and cooling fins since 3 years. Until now I used a E8400 with a GA-73PVM-S2H. This combo worked like a charm. Silent and energy saving. Never used more than 150Watts. I want to reuse my passive cooled 300W PSU for the new combo. It should be powerful enough because I have no additional cards except the RevoDrive which consumes around 5 Watts. The computer didn't crash at the beginning when the RevoDrive and 2x 2TB HDD were installed. Now it crashes with none of these drives installed. So the PSU will not likely be the origin of these crashes. But I can try disabling 3 cores to look if that helps.

btw: The K-Model was 20 bucks more expensive than the standard-model and has a better GPU which is important to me as I can't use a dedicated card. Moreover I have the opportunity to overclock the cpu if possible. Why do you think I can't change the multiplicator with my board?

As far as I am aware thats just the way it is.  H67 not for overclocking.. k chip or not.. P67 for overclocking.. Obviously with just the K chip..

Shouldn't that board have a dual bios?
Anyway I have similar problem on the same board. My Asus Xonar STX PCI-e card is not detected and I cannot install and use it.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The motherboard does have a Backup BIOS as you say.

As to why your motherboard wont' talk to that alien As*s card I can't imagine unless it has just got good taste!

Is it a PCIE x1 card? if so have you tried it in another slot?

Even though these CPUs are not exactly power hungry compared to the last generation I think that you are asking a lot of a 300W PSU.

You were right guys. I had to replace my PSU. I am running now with a 400W PSU and it works like a charm. But I had to place the card into the second PCI-E slot because the first one seems to work only with graphic cards.

That sounds reasonable. I thought you were asking abit much of your original PSU. Anyway it's all sorted now which is the main thing.
