Rocketraid 2720 with Gigabyte X58A-UDR3

Rocketraid 2720 with Gigabyte X58A-UDR3
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:09:32 pm »
Hi,

I've got a big issue with creating (and running) an array with Highpoint Rocketraid 2720 using a Gigabyte X58A-UDR3 motherboard. Almost immediately after creating an array (doesn't matter if it JBOD or RAID5) all the drives in the array fail and goes offline. Have tried both using the Rocketraid bios and the management tool in windows.

After days of troubleshooting (other disks, a new 2720-card, testing RAM, other graphic cards, etc) I tried the card with my old motherboard, GA-P35-DS4, and it worked perfectly. So there is some sort of compatibility issue with the MB. I've tried the raid card in all PCI-E slots but same problem.

This is what the windows event log says:
Log Name: System

Date: 2011-01-15 23:16:21
Event ID: 117
Task Category: None

User: N/A
Computer: Raid-PC
Description:
The driver for device \Device\Scsi\272x_1x1 detected a port timeout due to prolonged inactivity. All associated busses were reset in an effort to clear the condition.

Any ideas what to do or is my only option to go looking for another MB?

My specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Motherboard Model: Gigabyte X58A-UDR3
System BIOS version: FE
GPU: Asus GTX470
System memory size: 12GB KHX1600C9D3K3
HDD Model: 6 x HDS722020ALA330
Raid card: Hightpoint Rocketraid 2720 w. BIOS v. 1.2

hi and thanks.

I use a Corsair 750W PSU, I can also mention that the lowest power configuration is 1 2.5"sata-disk, 2 2.5" ssd-disk (for raid) gtx470 and the RR2720 raid card and still I can't build an array.so there shouldn't be a power issue.

I also tried all the different BIOS versions for my MB from FA to FE

Does your RAID card require a driver and if so is the latest one installed?

What about firmware for the card?

Yes latest driver installed and latest firmware on the card. I also have tried the three available firmware for the RAID card and all fails.
I have a case open at gigabyte and hopefully they will try to recreate the issue in their lab.

Yes, i've disabled pretty much everything leaving just enough to get the computer running.

I ran dpclat now and it really spikes (mouse freezes) when I tried to create a raid (JBOD 2 disks)

Ok, looks like it's Gigabye for me. Gigabyte won't do any tests with my Raidcard so I have to find another MB that works with my Rocketraid 2720. :(
