I tested a java 2D app on the S1080 tablet and because it worked I assumed it would have no problems on the S1081 but it bombs out. So I dug deeper and tried the latest version of J2SE with the demo programs included in the SDK. A lot of them just won't run. This S1081 tablet is clean out of the box with  Windows 7 Home fully updated and nothing installed except the J2SE SDK (includes JRE, no errors on install). I tried installing the previous version of the graphics chip driver but that made no difference.
Why won't 2D Java work on a brand new S1081 tablet?

Most likely this is because the S1081 GPU is based on the Imagination SGX545 graphics core while the S1080 is an Intel made GMA 3150 graphics core. Im not sure whether Imagination knows of this issue, but you could probably search long those lines just with a Windows OS slant.

Thanks, I'm posting a query regarding the IntelĀ® GMA 3600 on the Intel boards. I'll link if it gets a decent response.

Grin The BIOS update to F06 addresses my Java issues and apps now run on the S1081 tablet. I haven't tried the all of the SDK demos but I need to catch up on some lost project time first.

All the Java test demos work, happy day. I have to admit I did panic somewhat and was looking into returning 11 of these as "not fit for purpose" which would have been a shame as this is the only tablet I have been able to find that has wired ethernet without needing a base unit.
Nice to know Gigabyte GTS respond so quickly.

Good to know you have had good success with your tablets.

I too am very pleased that Gigabyte has the ethernet interface on their tablet. Thats also the main reason I got one.

As you say the connections are very important. It isn't always convenient to have a docking station.
