GA-890FXA-UD7 HELP
« on: March 01, 2011, 11:40:09 pm »
Hi all im looking for some help with my mobo I recently bought a GA-890FXA-UD7 and have been having some issues with it.

Firstly here is my hardware : AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 3.30GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3) Processor
                                              GB GF 480 SOC
2x4 gig of Mushkin Blackline 1600 mhz kit
                                              OCZ 600 Watt ModXstream-Pro

I installed all the hardware it booted up fine installed windows 7 no problem, after completing the setup my pc was restarting at random on trying to load into windows where eventually it will boot into windows and seem to be running stable. This issue was occuring every time I was booting up my pc restarting 5-7 times before becoming stable. Recently bought a new case and moved the setup into that and from there on the pc refuses to boot at all. The mobo seems to have power and turns on but the CPU fan will turn once and stop. I have tried numerous things from using a bigger psu (1000watt). I have also tested the cpu and its working fine in another pc same with my RAM and GFX card they all working fine.

I am thinking it could be the CPU socket that has gone but this is just speculation. Now after reading the sticky of the issue with RAM 1333 mhz and over im not sure.

Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated as I am already looking for a replacement.

Thanks in advance
Theo

The first thing to do would be building the system outside of the case. Place your motherboard on something non-conductive ( like wood ) and remove one stick of RAM. It's possible that something in the case is shorting your motherboard ( or some other component ).

If your CPU is working fine in another system then it shouldn't be the culprit. I think that Thuban, with it's improved memory controller, is probably capable of running 1600 Mhz without problems as long as you're not filling all 4 slots. Keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion.

Generally, if it won't work outside of the case then it's probably a faulty board ( considering that you've checked everything else in different systems ).

You're pushing it a little with a 600W PSU but it should be alright as long as you won't go overclocking everything. Remember that a GTX 480 is, pretty much, a single GPU equivalent of a GTX 295 ( performance, heat output and power consumption ).

Hi mate thanks for the reply. I have tried the setup outside the case and it doing exactly the same thing. I have tested all my other hardware in another pc and they seem to be working fine. Have been using 1 memory stick and still same issue the CPU fan just spins once and thats it. Have been reading about someone else having an issue with the bios being corrupt and not starting up as well and a way to short the bios out so it uses the backup.

Just to add the led is flahing 00 and 88 and a . for a split second

Hi there,

which revision is your Motherboard?
What BIOS are you running?

If your board is rev 2.0 then you will need BIOS F4 to fully support your CPU.
If your board is rev 2.1 then that isn't an issue but, as you have said, you could have a problem with the BIOS.

Whichever revision your motherboard is, rather than shorting pins it would be a better idea to re-flash BIOS using the QFlash utility. Remember to disable the Keep DMI Data Option before you do the flash though.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

It wopuld be worth an extended CMOS clear before anything else.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery overnight before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

If you still have this motherboard. Please check if your CPU has any bent pins or the 12V power connector is properly plugged in. If your 12v power connector has four(4) try and re orientate it.If there is no success then I fear you have a bad motherboard.

I'm afraid that you have made a couple of probable errors there fortiscrew as the pins very, very seldom get bent on the AMD chips and it is not possible to re-orientate a 4 pin power connector as the socket is idiot proof.
