  Simple question as the Header states....... Does any body use or trust "Registry Mechanic 2011 ?

  For Disc and or SSD........Had any problems or is there something far better.

Not sure about what's best for SSD but I use CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner It's free and does an excellent job and, more to the point, I haven't had any issues with it.

I used to use Registry Mechanic but switched some time ago and don't regret it......... yet!

I used to use it several years ago (obviously not the 2011 edition) and it was ok but gave up using it and haven't looked back since.

+ 1 CCleaner!  Always part of my toolbox these days and as DM said it hasn't failed me yet.  I believe I read on the OCZ forums that a lot of the techs there also use CCleaner for their SSD's.  I'm not up on those as yet but I will get some schooling here pretty soon as I have two OCZ 100GB Vertex LE's for a RAID 0 array and the OS.  I bought them on sale  for my last rig but couldn't get them installed without buying a controller card as the Striker II Extreme didn't have the required AHCI mode in the BIOS and then i decided to wait anyway until I built a new rig.

I have never used Registry Mechanic 2011, so I cannot comment on it [but I do have a friend who swears by it]!

It is number 5 on the top ten list in the USA for registry cleaners...

I have been using IOLO's System Mechanic now for about 3 years and I have been very, very pleased with it.

I have noticed remarkable speed up of every system I have ever installed it on, so that says a lot.  Need I say more?

For security purposes, it also has Department of Defense 5220-22M compliant technique for maximum security when deleting files.

I also like the military-standard drive scrubbing for when I sell used computers.

This software also defrags and backs up the registry.

I just received a copy of Tune Up Utilities...I have never used it before, but they say it is the number one selling Utility in Europe....hmmmm....how interesting!

Ok, since most of you dear gentlemen are from Europe....any advice on this Tune Up Utilities?

I was a paid user of Registry Mechanic years ago. Over time I did have several programs stop working after a registry clean. Raxco PerfectDisk was one of them. Can't remember the others off the top of my head. Once I figured out which reg keys were being deleted that caused the problems I excluded the keys as a fix.  I also contacted their technical support to report the problem but they did not seem to care if Registry Mechanic messed up some programs and refused to add exceptions to the default programs rules to alleviate the problems I had found. Shortly after this occurred some how my purchased program turned into a subscription based program without warning. Once the subscription expired the program still worked but had major nag screens and no longer received updates. When this occurred I renewed my subscription as overall I liked the product. A year later they auto renewed my subscription without my knowledge. I contacted them and got my money back and never looked back. Do they still do the same today? I hope not but I'm sure not willing to find out.

Registry cleaners though useful can cause more problems than they fix. There is no big need for them IMO anyway. The only registry cleaner that I will use or recommend is CCleaner. It's registry cleaning abilities are weak compared to Registry Mechanic but in my testing CCleaner is at least safe.

 Thanks guys...this is the sort of meaty response I was after and I'm sure other forum members would like to read......interesting read about IOLOs version of a reg cleaner!  how much does it cost?..........your reluctance to hit the "GO" button is well shared with any new app especially when it's targeting the registry.........not being a system admin trained user it's the only way I can fix/undo changes what my inexperienced finger sometimes do.

  Yes bill ... CCleaner is highly recommended by me as well and your observation that it's safe is well founded.......it's one of my apps in my toolbox and has been there for many years

  System suite 5 or 6 I tried years ago and I must say I liked it a lot......it was then quite a chunky,complex suite, good value for money but I found the entire bundle too much.......and then,... it was a matter of the lot or nothing

  The reason I started this was we keep one PC in the house for high security transactions, Maxed out with the best apps I can find and load, runs like a pig , but it's secure for online banking and purchases both here and abroad.

 two pieces of hardware I have attached to this Laptop,USB finger print reader and a Blue tooth Apple keyboard (love those keyboards) constantly loose connectivity on boot ......both running third party modded driver probable doesn't help........CClean usually knocks out the keyboard after a sweep and the newly installed Registry Mechanic the reader...........maybe time to try something else for compatibility.

Normally the price is $39-$79 [$39 for Premium, $79 for Business].  I've never paid for it.

Yes, their claim to European fame is stamped right on the box!  It is number 4 here in the USA.

If you are using your PC for sensitive security transactions, I recommend you find and use the best!

If you are really serious about using this system for secure transactions etc I would steer clear of using bluetooth connections. They can be very easilly intercepted.

  Good spot DM........I actually disabled my on board wifi as I could use the keyboard in the park walking the dog with the PC back home

  Now work with a cheap, old usb wifi dongle that has a range of about 8 inches tops!......or am I still at risk with this practice?

Well if you are certain of the range then it shouldn't be a problem. I would make sure however and make sure that it is a secure connection.
