ga-g41m-combo with DDR3 1600 RAM only at 1066 MHz should be 1333 MHz

ga-g41m-combo mobo with DDR3 1600 RAM should be able to go at 1333 MHz but actual is only 1066 MHz.

hardware:

ga-g41m-combo rev 1.4 F3 BIOS
intel core 2 quad Q9400 2.667 GHz (333 MHz FSB)
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

see screenshots.

RAM is on the Gigabyte approved RAM list for 1333 MHz on this mobo:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3505&dl=1#memory%20support%20list

RAM SPD indicates 1333 MHz but actual is 1066 MHz (see 1st screenshot).
in the BIOS i see that there are two appropriate SYSTEM MEMORY MULTIPLIER choices, 2.4B and 3.2B but 3.2B only gets me to 1066 MHz.

why isn't there a 4.0B SYSTEM MEMORY MULTIPLIER choice? if there were, RAM would be at 1333 MHz.

please advise.

thanks,
JSD

Hi

Sorry for the delay in answering but have been a bit busy.

The 1066Mhz is the standard spec for this board when manufactured and that is why there is no extra multiplier to take it up to 1333.  You may well find that a newer BIOS will have changed that and allow an overclock. Try checking to see what is available and also try running CPU-Z and look under the SPD tab to see what the speeds are.

Ooooh ! just wondering If you put any ideas forward as yet for promo 25,000.....  ? or should I PM you ?

I think Runn3R is just too busy, me hiding under the bed last week was the second time I've heard from him Period!.... that and the wrap over the knuckles a ways back.....anyway lets talk, ... I think we only have 6 to 8 weeks before the figure is reached and sorry for my exceptionally dry sense of humour these last two days......hope you took it as lightly as it was intended!..... I do try and see the funny side of life, not like you can just drop everything and go walkabout for a month over here.

Yes no problem to discuss the competition idea. PM me.

No I like a bit of humour as do many of the others on the forum. Sometimes when we get going it can get a bit mad, but all good fun! ;D
