GA-990XA-UD3 Bugs need help..
« on: July 05, 2011, 02:24:13 pm »
I am having some bugs...
sometimes it will get stuck when trying to enter the bios
high vboost when the cpu is under load on the vcore.

vcore - in the bios 1.350v
vcore - at idle cpu-z 1.360v
vcore - on load prime95 - cpu-z 1.396v, on load IBT - cpu-z 1.408v

so here is my question, is there a beta bios for the 990XA-UD3 like there is for the 990FXA-UD5
The newest one on gigabytes site is F3...
I have been trying to ask gigabyte some questions about this board but they are taking days to reply to anything :/

Hi there,

I am trying to find out if there is a BIOS update for this motherboard for another member of the forum who is facing very similar problems.

If you PM me with your e-mail address, as soon as I get hold of a BIOS update I will forward it to you.

I'm having big problems with this board too. Sata is a lot slower even though I've enabled Sata 3 in bios. No clear instructions how to install the drivers for the sata too. There is no floppy header to connect a floppy yet there is directory on the Gigabyte installation disk to be able to create a floppy disk. I'm using XP:
Configuration
Tsunami Dream case - 2x120mm fans
HIS Ati HD4850 512MB
AMD Phenom II 955BE @ 1.375
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) @ 1.65v
1xSSD
3xHDD
1xBD-RW

The biggest problem with this motherboard is as follows:
My motherboard runs extremely hot. At 25*C ambient temp. I have 45*C on the southbridge, 62*C on the northbridge and 72*C on the mosfets. All voltages are at stock. Memory is at 1.60v and CPU at 1.35v. Temp on the CPU is 35*C idle, 46*C under load. I've replaced the stock fans on my case with more powerful, but this hasn't improved anything. I even checked the above temps with temp probes and the difference from the above values was 2-3*C less. Please help. Is my mobo deffective or is this new AM3+ socket that runs hot? I had Asus 785tdm-evo in the same configuration and I've never seen it above 42*C.

Ticket number is 1103333 posted on 8/07/2011 and still no reply. Just to mention that The above temps are on full load for 10min with prime95 blend test.
When idle I have my 955 processor at 1.00v with Phenom MSRtweaker so the max temp reported on the mobo is around 52. I am also using Nzxt Sentry 2 with 5 temp probes placed onto the motherboard heatsinks to confirm temps and the difference as stated is 2-3 degrees
. Now this really makes difficult to overclock my processor because the Case gets heated by the mobo, not the cpu. I've went further and installed 40mm fan on the SB heatsink and 60mm fan on the mosfet heatsink - still nothing has changed except 2*c off. I went even further and installed Scythe gentle typhoon at 4200RPM to intake 110CFM of air and at exhaust is Scythe s-flex to exhaust 62CFM. Ths reduced my temps with another 4*c but the noise is unbearable.
Really poor motherboard. Now I don't know if I should return it and exchange for another one (if I can) or just ask for replacement. I've got a feeling that there is a problem with the new AM3+ socket.
Forgot to mention that all motherboard voltages are at stock. I've tried lower them as much as I could - still no difference.
One setting was CPU something at the lowest 2.02v (i'm not at home to doublecheck) and another one at 1.38v
Let's see what others have experience with this board.

@newbie222

Hi there,

Tech Support can take about 7- 10 days to reply to a request (depending on workload) but if you still haven't had a reply by Tuesday of next week then contact runn3R here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=13 he is the main forum moderator and works for Gigabyte.

Although I am setting up the GA-990FXA-UD5 the same basic principals will apply for your motherboard so you might like to check out my living review here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,5704.msg45815.html#msg45815 as I go through setting up AHCI mode and also RAID0.
There can sometimes be an issue with BD/ DVD/CD drives running in AHCI Mode so you might want to configure the SATA Port4/5 Type to IDE rather than as SATA Type on your motherboard and attach your BD Drive to one of these ports. You will then need to use ports 0-3 for your SSD and 3XHDD's in AHCI Mode

To install drivers at the F6 stage of the XP Install then you will need to format a USB Drive in FAT32 and use that.

Hi

I notice absic didn't cover your question regarding the floppy drive. There is no support for the old standard PATA connections and hence no support for a floppy drive. If it is really important you could arrange to connect it via a USB adapter but that will be even more expense for an outdated device.

HI,
@absic
I'm not sure Windows will see USB flash drive at F6 stage. If we assume it will, which files are you talking about? There are Marvell, Gigabyte and AMD files. The AMD ones says Raid controller.
How can you get these temps? Mine are quite high. See attached file.

I too am experiencing many bio freezes when trying to get into it. Also is there any working 64bit raid drivers? and lastly where are our UD3 BIOs?! you guys are giving all the attention to UD5 and UD7 with tons of bios updates what gives? why are yall ignoring us UD3... so far my money doesnt seem worth it with bugs and poor support, prove me wrong.......!

Hi there,

the only thing I can advise you to do is to contact Technical Support on your side of the pond: http://ggts.gigabyte.com/tech.asp?ClassID=2&Country=U.S.A.&SourceWeb=B2C as they are really the only ones who can help with writing the BIOS and with BETA updates.

I don't think the UD3 is being ignored but, like all things, the UD7 & UD5 being slightly higher spec'd boards were probably sold in larger initial quantities and the issues with those boards were being raised almost immediately after they hit the shelves. Gigabyte, like all companies, will tend to respond to those who shout loudest and there have not been that many posts about problems with the UD3.

Hi again,

you may have to wait several days for a response to your support request as replies can sometimes take an eternity to come back.  :'(

Please let us know how you get on and, if you can get hold of an updated BIOS could you let me have a copy as I have had a couple of people asking for one if it becomes available?

Thanks

Alright looks like F3B is floating around the web, not sure why its not advertised on Gigabytes offical page under BIOS when you search this specific Motherboard. Ill make a new thread for it.
