ssd drive boot issues

ssd drive boot issues
« on: September 11, 2011, 01:41:41 am »
OK so I got a 240 gig OZC Agility 3 SSD. Tried to restore from a backuop and all I get  is "Loading Operating system" hangs there. Tried a standard install of Windows 7 and still hangs at  "Loading Operating system" I'm plugged into the Sata0 Blue. Also tried the White sata0.  When I boot from my Acronics recovery CD and select Windows, It loads Windows OK. Any suggestions?
Board is  P55-UD2. Bios f11. The drive shows up in BIOS and I have it set as IDE

Also hooked up the RAID 0 drives I had before and still get the "Loading Operating system" but booting from the acronic recovery disk and selecting Windows it boots up fine. I'm confused

Hi

First thing is it would help to know your motherboard and other related hardware models.

I expect that what is going wrong is that you have added the new SSD and are trying to boot from it but the BIOS is still looking for your original boot device. Make sure all your BIOS boot settings are correct.

Do you have the "Acronis Plus Pack" installed along with your Acronis 2010/11 ?.....plus pack critical to have if you're loading to a dissimilar system.......even a new drive is a different system as far as Acronis is concerned

Thanks for all the replys. It was the BIOS. I dug deeper and fond that boot order was set to USB device. Set it to OCZ drive and booted right up.
 One more question.
I want to use 3 - raptor 160 GB 10,000RPM as a RAID 0.
I have the SSD in the SATA0 (Blue) port. can I add the 3 drives to SATA 2,3,4? How would I setup the BIOS? Or should I use 2 drives and plug them into the Gigabyte RAID white ports?

Thanks again

I think the blue are the Intel P55.....so they run 0, 1, 2 and 3.....So.....run C: off 0 and the Raid 0 off 1, 2 and 3......put optical on whats left but under IDE in Bios

If you loaded the OS under IDE instead of ICHI you may have  boot issues..........because although you can run two virtual discs/machines off the Intel P55 chipset, ....it will have to be set to Raid in Bios so you can configure the Raid Array (Ctrl+I) which means C: drive will be running under ACHI..........you with me?

Yes I figured that it was probably the case from what you said. Nice easy fix there for you. :D

Thank you all for the help. Running now with the 3 - raptors in Raid 0.
Now I need a mobo that can take advantage of the 6gig SATA on the SSD.
Thanks again
