P35-DS4 not seeing my 3TB hard drives right

P35-DS4 not seeing my 3TB hard drives right
« on: October 22, 2011, 08:59:25 pm »
OK so I think I should be cussing right now.  I am redoing a setup I have and have a Q6600 processor running with a GA-P35-DS4 motherboard.  I wanted to use it as a large storage medium so just dropped some cash on 5 3TB hard drives.  For some reason the raid controller is only seeing 750GB on each disk and I'm guessing someone is going to say that it's not supported by this board.  Any thoughts/options?

Thanks.

JR

EDIT:  The motherboard if I reset it sees them as 3TB but when the raid controller kicks in, which I need to get raid5, it only sees them as 746GB

    Start cussing!

In a nutshell..........your board will not support UEFI......so it will not support using the GPT file format over NTFS which has a limit of under 2TB.

You need anew board................might as well get a CPU while your at it..................case would be nice too...........then there's the PSU.

  never ends doesn't it ;)

Thanks.  Cussing in progress.  I was looking at some raid controllers however trying to watch them.  They are very expensive and when I read the fine print a lot of them only support up to a certain size max per raid partition.  I just built a custom $5,000 computer, don't really want to go there again with this one.  Was going to put everything in there but the pump is in the way of putting more in.  Oh well.  Thanks for your input.

The only other alternative is to move the pumps on your other machine to allow more room for the drives. This you could do by using a unit such as I reviewed a while ago for Phobya. Check it out here :
