Raid(XHD) enables AHCI on a GByte Mobo yes/no. (Wiki says Yes)

Hi all,
If you help with the general question that would great, if you know the answer to spefic problems that would just be a bonus.
Cheers

General Question
===========
I read the below on Wiki, is this true for GByte motherboards too?  I am talking about the intel controller, but would be interesting if its enabled on the Marvell one too for future reference.

My mobo GA-Z68X-UD3-B3

"Many SATA controllers offer selectable modes of operation: legacy Parallel ATA emulation, standard AHCI mode, or vendor-specific RAID (which generally enables AHCI in order to take advantage of its capabilities). Intel recommends choosing RAID mode on their motherboards (which also enables AHCI) rather than AHCI/SATA mode for maximum flexibility"

Specific Question
===========
I may need to reflash the firmware on my Cosair Force 3 SSD, but the instructions state I need the Bios set in AHCI.  Will this work in RAID(XHD).
The reason: I have moved my user profile folder to the Raid drive using a symbolic link.  I see potential problems if I disable this.

Hi,

The Gigabyte BIOS allows the enabling of AHCI, RAID or IDE modes for your port controllers.

For your second question RAID mode will allow you to run the update on your SSD if it requires AHCI.

Thanks for that.  It's a shame that the Mobo User Manual doesn't say it.

I posted a similar question on the Corsair website.  I now been given another issue.  The SSD is running the OS and the Raid 1 has the HDDs.

If I update the firmware to the drive that is also the OS drive, this could brick that drive?

Ity is always best to update the firmware on a drive by making sure that it is the only drive connected at the time. This saves any other drives from accidental damage.

It is always a dodgy business running any BIOS or firmware update and as such all possible safety measures should be taken. Usually everything works out fine but that can't be promised.
