gv n580 ud 15i BF3 crashes - please look.
« on: November 06, 2011, 12:24:22 pm »
Hi all, have been having problems since I got my new PC for BF3.

I have done everything I can think of / have been told to try.

Have just been looking around these forums and have seen that for this card a wrong voltage may be the cause, and should be pumped upto a 1.050 voltage, so I downloaded MSI Afterburner to make the adjustment. Upon opening and attempting to do so it seems it is already on "1050" which I assume is equivelent to the 1.050.

\/ - Boring story of my problem's - \/
I get random BSOD crashes during gameplay multiplayer/co-op/campaign (bf3) back to desktop and have to force close the program as its frozen.
I was getting driver related event's in my "Event viewer", and had a look around and stumbled accros a possible compatability issue between my asus p8z68 v pro MB and G.Skill ram. So I raged and went and got some corsair veng c9 1600 ram 2x4gb and still have the crash problems, but none of the events to go with it (strange, dont know, dont get it lol.)

I have all current drivers, have tried all other drivers, same problems.
I have flashed my MB.
I have the current BIOS for my GPU, even if there was another one available I do not see anything anywhere.

This is really killing me as I dont know where to look to resolve my problem, and I dont know if I should be waiting on some god-like BF3 patch to just fix everythign for me, or I need to resolve my problem through a sledge hammer !!

I am going to try clocking my card down, see if that maybe makes my card more stable if that is the issue.

If anyone can help would be very nice! :-)

Thanks guys.

Hi and welcome.

Sorry but I can't offer any solution other than what you have already mentioned. It is worth trying downclocking the card  although a voltage tweak will usually help.

What STOP code is on the BSODs ? That should give you a pointer.

Have you tried asking on the Asus forum for help ?

Are you using the latest motherboard BIOS version ?

When the errors were reporting in the event viewer it was ID 4101.
I updated and flashed my MB and it worked without crashing for approx 2 hours, then back to same issue.
I played for a little over an hour last night with the card clocked down too 750mhz and didn't get a problem but went to bed before seeing how long
It would run for. I will try tonight and see what the result is.

If this is the case should I be taking my card back and updating / get someone else's card.
As I don't see that on a brand new system 2 weeks old, the gpu should not have problems like this from its first breath.

Please let us know what you decide to do and if you manage to get it sorted out properly. For future reference though it is important to make a note of the STOP code (like 0x00000124) as it gives a good insight into the exact problem.

I'll try find the stop code tomorrow, how ever I continued using msi afterburner today and clocked it down from 795 to 750, played for 2 1/2 hours straight,
then another two hours later and did not have one hickup aside from a few green flickers.

What do I do now, wait for stable drivers that run bf3 from NVIDIA?

Well of course it could be that it needs a firmware update or a patch from the BattleField3 writers or as you say a driver update from Nvidia. I think I would just hang on until I could update and see what happens then.

Hi guys, here's the reply to my mail at ggts about this issue affecting nvidias 400 and 500 oced cards with BF3:

Question :    Hi Gigabyte! I'm trying to fix Battlefield 3 issues with this card, freezes, CTDs, and hard lock ups,It seems to be a common problem with factory OCed cards, I was on the Gigabyte forums and gaming webpages, and saw a lot of the exact same problem with different cards from 400 series and 500 series. After a lot of test and error including clean install of Windows 7 x64 Pro and of course latest drivers of all my hardware downloaded from the web, latest BIOS update for my mainboard (GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 BIOS F9)and for my GV-N460OC-1GI ( bios version F3) the solution was increasing GPU Core Voltage from 0.987v to 1.012v with MSI Afterburner after that simple increase in voltage I was able to play Battlefield 3 without any glitch, freezing,CTD, hard lock ups, my temps at load never hit 70C. It would be really nice to get a firmware update to fix this problem that is affecting a lot of people with factory overclocked Gigabytes 400 and 500 series cards. Thanks in advance.
Regards

Precadog have you memtested your ram? Also check and see that you have your voltages set correctly for your memory and timings. There are issues with BF3 with freezing etc, that I know of, but BSOD's I don't think are related to the game itself. Sounds like a hardware problem to me.

                                      TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN!

I've seen this and other posts maybe twenty times in the last 4 days ......"BF3 Crashing....HELP ME" this is happening across many cards

People just assume that because one person posted .....Fixed !......0.05V increase.....that it's definitely a manufacturers  issue or problem.

So why is it that it;s only with the Multi-player version of BF3.......this most probably, ....almost definitely a BF3 multi-player version issue.

If there was as much noise at the software vender's/writers door step......a fix would come all the sooner!

It should not be Gigabytes, Zotac or any-other card manufacturer problem ........ increasing voltage above design spec adds heat.....heat mean more cards fail.......which means money.

The people that need to fix the problem is the game writers EA and DICE

Hi Aussie, do you work for Gigabyte? I'm asking cause you reply with this same message in all the posts that make reference with crashes and BF3.
And to let you know in my config, the increase of 0.025V is NOT ABOVE the recomended voltage its only a increase in the 3D LOW P-State, the default MAX voltage in the BIOS of the GV-N460OC-1GI  is 1,087V.The default voltage in 3D low P-State of my card was 0.987v after a increase of 0.025v i get 1.012V and problem fixed for me.
I'm trying to help here ... you know.
You should post something that help others, and IMO your replies dont help at all.
So.. again, do you work for Gigabyte?
Regards.

  Hi ya Technics

And jolly welcome to the Public Gigabyte Forum.....

I'm trying to help here ... you know.....(A) I hear a big but coming here :D and 2.....and who are you trying to help? ? ?

You should post something that help others, and IMO your replies dont help at all.....

(A) The word ReplieS suggest non of my work is of a worthwhile nature........ I'm sorry you feel that way.....But.....there's other people out there that have confirmed that the voltage increase "did-not" work for them.......some are even reporting deleting /rolling back IE9 was the fix for them, so you see what works for you may not be the magic bullet for all........I pride myself in being objective and honest and report what I see as ...."it is what it is"....and being a public forum your entitled to your opinion .... with over 1600 posts , I think I'm just as able to voice my opinion as you are .... in the quote you posted of what I said can you explain why it only happens with the on-line version of the game?

So.. again, do you work for Gigabyte?.....(A).... I don't think Gigabyte would have me as I show no favoritism to most manufactures......if they earn it ....then that's another matter 8)

P.S......I've only posted it twice ;)

Technics I can assure you that Allan no more works for Gigabyte than you or I do. THe fact that he may have used the same answer twice is not a good enough reason to have a go at him and so please keep this friendly, after all we are all here to help each other. ;)

This issue is vey common in these days after BF3 release ans the reason of your CTD and freezes is that core in yoour graphic card does not get enough voltage to pull this massive game with DX11. In my case I had the graphic card with only 1 .00 w. and had constant crashes, after I RMA`id my card I checked my new card and it showed 1.25 w. and since then no crashes or whatever. So try 3-rd part soft to raice a voltage or RMA it.
Cheers
