Problem with Audio

I am having some major problems with my on board audio. I have updated the most current drivers. When my computer comes out of sleep mode the audio makes this random crackling noise. Also i can not get my audio to come out both ports. I have enabled the audio to play through both audio jacks but it still can only play through one.

Get a real sound card then.
If you re using a no-name power supply then this issue could be the sign it s gone bad and may take other components with it soon.

Does a reboot fix the problem ?

Audio will do that if the system is running low on memory.

ALC 8xx is better than ALC 6xx series ,but on analog outputs it lack some quality.

Had issues in the past with on-board sounds with Gigabyte and  MSI mobos and the cure was a dedicated sound card .And even though Creative doesn t have a positive image right now (and maybe they will never gain the respect back) this ones always worked for me.

In response to the problem posed originally, the only issue that I have found is with the Gigabyte Realtek drivers and have now stopped using them altogether as I have found the native Microsoft drivers in Windows7 work better.

I use the M-Audio Delta1010 soundcard for audio recording and multitrack audio playback but I have to say that the ALC889 audio chip on both my GA-990FXA-UD5 and GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 systems are pretty impressive when it comes to playback in all other instances. It used to be the case that a 3rd Party soundcard was essential for good quality audio but I feel that this is no longer true.

Indeed ALC 889 sounds interesting ,but something is still missing in there.Sounds better than ALC 892 or ALC 888, but the "muddy"  feeling is still there...
The implementation on the mobo is also important.

Anyway when i buy a motherboard i only use the on-board sound and LAN for few days to see if they are healthy and then off with them.

Realtek gave me some issues in the past 10 years  and this (along sound quality)  was another reason to ignore them ,issues starting from missing sounds in some games( it can be observed even in BF BC2 which doesn t feature EAX) and finishing with static noise or other strange noises while doing specific tasks (maybe due to lack of real hardware acceleration ,driver conflicts  or mobo PCB).

Of course this are my own subjective observations and some may consider differently.

Yes Reboot seems to fix the issue. I just got a new m4 Crucial SSD and I had to format and put a fresh Windows Install so i can take advantage of TRIM. I have 12 GB of memory with a AMD 1100t 3.6 Ghz OC. Like all the other post suggest, I will get a dedicated Sound card if it keeps in getting in the way. I did fix the issue with the Audio coming out both ports. It was a setting that I figured out.

If you decide to get a dedicated one you can ask help in choosing one on the general area of the forum.

You can try and use the Windows 7 included driver ,but you will loose some settings that the Realtek driver has.
I had to do that with a board that i ve sold and the Realtek drivers wouldn t work properly.
If you remove the Realtek driver the Update of Windows should give you the option for the driver or maybe you can rollback to the ones you had at W7 fresh install time.

Yup They have done a great job of perfecting the hardware and codecs.

@unknown For whatever reason, these Gigabyte 900 boards are having various issues after waking from sleep. My CPU temp goes up by 4-5C and Arkon's NB cools off...

It might have something to do with possible IRQ sharing/conflicts. I SLI'd 2 GTX 460 SE last night and what an IRQ mess ! ahaha

Yes it may be , but on-board sound is on-board sound .
Issues with resources or strange noises (lack of proper voltage filtering) will always "hurt" this implementations.
