GA-870A-USB3 with FX-6100 not working F5d
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:39:26 am »
Hello I got a GA-870A-USB3 in November of 2011 and used a AMD Athlon 620 4X CPU with it. After checking my board CPU compatibility on Gigabyte website I was told that the FX-6100 with work with the board with an updated F5d BIOS which I already updated since I got the board.

I got the FX-6100 and not when I turn on the PC the CPU fan spins really slow, and I get not beeps, no screen. Why is that happening?

Why do you think is the PSU, I also have a problem sometimes before with my current CPU where my PC would keep restarting, beeps once and then restart, i would have to clear the BIOS for hrs before the problem stops, but it has happened to me serveral time, that is why I got another CPU thinking is my old Athlon that is the prob.

Does the Athlon work if you swap it in ?

I bought a new 880W PSU and still it does the same thing, the fan would only shift every 5 sec or so, like it wants to spin but then stop, and if i spin it myself, i would just stay spinning very slow.

This is the info from CPU-Z but it says Rev. 00 and not 3.1 although my motherboard has 3.1 printed on it.

PS another thing I probably did not say in my first message is that when I first put it the CPU it works went into BIOS everything was ok, I only changed the turbo boost from 3.9Ghz to 4Ghz, and restarted, but when window was loading with the logo screen, it just stayed there, and nothing was happing, so I press the reset button, and changed the Turbo Boost back to 3.9Ghz. and restarted and I thing that is when nothing was happening. the CPU was not spinning and there was no beeps.

It s good you ve told this too.

Please enter BIOS and press F9 for system info .look at the BIOS versions and tell us both.

Have you cleared CMOS after the problem or you ve just put the Athlon instead ?

BIOS Version: Main F5d Backup F4

Is that the reason why my fx6100 is not working, it is cause my Backup BIOS is not the same as my Main?

Someone said something about synchronizing the BIOS, how do I do that?

Thats easy to do but not your problem, to  put main bios on the back up.

From a cold start with the power to the machine switched off press the power button and then enter the BIOS by pressing Del. Then when you get to the main screen press F9. This will bring up an
extra screen which will display more information about the two BIOS versions. Assuming they are different exit the BIOS and shutdown.
Again press the power button and this time press Alt + F12 where you would normally use the Del key to enter the BIOS. You will fiond that then your monitor will turn black and you will see:

Press [Enter] to start copying main BIOS to backup BIOS...

When you press Enter more text will appear saying:

Writing BIOS image.... xxxKb OK

Once completed  more text will show:

BIOS successfully recovered! Power off or reset system!

Do as it says. Both Main and Backup BIOS chips now store the same BIOS version. You can now reboot as normal.

Best advice is to start the PC from cold (not a reboot) and, if possible, use a PS/2 keyboard. When the Alt+ F12 is registered you will get a message on screen about copying the main BIOS
to the Backup chip. DO NOT turn tURN PC off whilst this process takes place. Once the copying has been completed you can restart as usual.
One beep is a memory code

Thank you but I already did that, I found the method in another post in this forum. I am using a USB keyboard, and it was not working at all, I had to use a PS/2 adapter for it to work.

About you saying "Thats easy to do but not your problem" what did you mean about that?

After making both Main and Backup the same, my FX-6100 is still not booting.

You may be overlooking the most obvious point.

There are TWO DIFFERENT "types"  of the 870A-USB3 motherboard ( both with versions 3.0  and 3.1.).

1. the AM3+ version with a BLACK CPU socket WILL take a bulldozer CPU with the BETA BIOS you are using.

2. the AM3 version with a white CPU socket WILL NOT tale a bulldozer CPU EVEN with the BETA BIOS you are using.

The common factor seems to be that the motherboard MUST have a BLACK socket to be Bulldozer compatible.

Which socket does your motherboard have???

OK I will check but I thought I saw a black, but I will post and let you know, so you are saying if it is a white, then I should send the CPU back for a refund as it will never work?

Ok I just checked and I do have the black socket. So what else should I check, might the CPU be damaged? as I bought it used (Like New) on Amazon.

Most probable is defective ,but you have to check it in some other mobo that is compatible.
Do you have the warranty of the CPU ?
You can RMA it to AMD if needed .
