Audio not working on X79-UD3 running Win7/64

On a brand new fresh installation of Windows7 I am not able to get the sound working. Even after installing the software drivers included with the motherboard, the drivers still do not work. When hovering over the sound icon (bottom right) it says that nothing is connected. In Driver Manager the sound card is reporting an error. I already tried re-installing after a complete re-format and ran into the same issue.

Any suggestions on how I can get the sound to work ?

Seaching through the event log I found this. I already tried updating to the latest drivers available from the gigabyte website.

At it turns out the problem was not the driver. The cause of this issue was that I had Intel VT-d enabled in the BIOS. I am using virtual box (running on Ubuntu) and thought it would be nice to have this feature enabled. However as it turns out when booting into Window7 it breaks the sound support. After a little bit of research I found out that virtual box doesn't support leveraging VT-d in any case. So I disabled it and all was good. Still a little annoying that the sound does not work on Windows. Linux with VT-d enabled was able to do sound just fine.
