A search with google now shows 20 stores having the S1081, although all are preorder.

This indicates that the tablet itself is almost ready for mass consumption. This is evidenced by the fact that Nicole Scott somehow was able to snag a unit and has an unboxing video posted on Netbooknews.com.

Having seen the specs sheets around the web and Nicole's video it appears that Gigabyte has not made any of my recommended changes. Unfortunately this means the S1081 will get a stiff licking from the Windows 8 capable tablets being prepped for release. In addition to the minor issues it has.

There is a Kupa X11 and Dell Latitude 10 which I have seen on the web. Tablets from last year like the MSI Windpad that had 1280x800 resolution will have no problems running Windows 8. Although none of these have the full capabilities of the S1081, its unability to run Windwos 8 metro will surely seal it's doom. Since although they lack the capabilities of the S1081, the sales reps will focus on that one inability, which coincedentiliy has most tablet seekers attention right now.

There is a review of the S1080 on Amazon which someone who just bought that tablet wrote. He is quite happy with the tablet but hopes to install Windows 8 when it arrives.

Having said all that, if you know how to and are willing, hacking the Windows registry will give you 1152 x864 resolution however bare in mind that things will get pretty small, so clicking selections will become much harder.

Looks like Gigabyte will have the S1081 available at Computex next month. I base this on the product list for exhibitors from the Computex web site.

Sporting a 10-inch multi-touch capacitive display, the S1081 slate is cited to be ideal for business use. Exploiting the Windows 7 OS, the slab is empowered by the new Intel Atom N2800 1.86GHz processor. While the 500GB HDD variant is expected to provide ample storage space, the SSD version is said to deliver a swift user experience.
