RMA'd and received faulty replacement
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:46:43 am »
I RMA'd my GTX480 SOC and have received terribly faulty card back. It has terrible artifacts in games and locks up the pc within seconds. It is also clocked lower than it should be, does not downlcok to idle and the fan is stuck on 100%.

Here is the email I just sent to returns:

Quote
My RMA UKA-<redacted> has completed and I have received a replacement card.

The new card has a number of problems:

The fan runs at 100% all the time.
The speeds are 795mhz core instead of 820, 1002mhz ram instead of 950mhz and 1590mhz shader instead of 1640mhz.
The card does not downlock at all when idle.
Immediately upon loading any 3d game I get flashing green and red 'stars' and the screen will turn black or grey within a few seconds and lockup the pc.

I have now wasted over a week, and £10, to end up with this faulty card.

Please advise on my course of action now as I do not want a faulty card, or one that is below spec of the card I originally bought.

Anyone else been in a similar situation or have advice on how mad I should be getting and/or what I should be expecting gigabyte to do about it?

Well it looks like I was premature in asking for advice as Returns have arranged a courier to collect the faulty card and are sending me a 580 SOC since there are no more 480 SOC apparenlty (maybe the one I got was the last one they had lying around  ???)

I'm happy that they are making this right anyway  :)

Hi

It sounds to me like Gigabyte have treated you very well there and done everything that could be asked of them. Sometimes getting irate is neccessary but others like this it is a bit pre-emptive.

It sounds like you have done alright out of the situation anyway which from your viewpoint is the main thing.  ;)
