Do I need a bios update to run i3 3225 on Z77 D3H?

I just ordered a D3H and a i3 3225. In fear of not being able to use the processor instantly I ordered a service of a bios upgrade. Now here's the problem. According to the webshop it can take up to five workdays to perform the "service" I ordered. I of course want the board asap so I was wondering if the i3 3225 can be used to perform the update.

I do not have a different socket 1155 cpu which I can use so I wanted to check, before I cancel the service so the items can be shipped tonight.

So, can I use the i3 3225 on any bios version to update?

According to Gigabytes website the processor you have is supported by Bios F18. Seems to be the only one listed.

You should have no troubles. And a Bios update takes about 3/5 minutes. Shop must be VERY busy.lol

I have seen topics from people having other/lower versions on the motherboard. So if I get a "F10" board. Will the processor run, so I can perform the update or will it do nothing until I get that F18 on?

The motherboard came with F10 out of the box and the i3 3225 worked nicely. I performed an update to F18 and I am typing this message from the pc. I don't know how earlier versions would have behaved, but F10 worked!

Hi

I am glad it all worked out for you straight out of the box but the confusion lay in your lack of detailed post. TFisher answered as correctly as he could, but didn't realise that there was more than one revision of the motherboard. When checking anyhting like this you must make sure that you give the correct model number ie GA-Z77-D3H and then which revision of the board it is as well ie rev 1.1. This allows getting the exact information regarding updates and drivers etc. If you see here there are two revisions for your motherboard and they will probably have different BIOS files as well as other differences.

Well I have a Rev 1.0 PCB. I did not know that untill I received the board. I am not sure how much more info I could have given. According to the Gigabyte website all processors are supported "since" F18 (the newest) so that info is incorrect. For pcb rev 1.1, the CPU support list is identical.

No I understand your situation and in this case there was little difference. However I was just trying to help you for future posts. You can always ask the retailer which revision board they have and are sending though. ;)

Not if I am buying from the cheapest-of-the-cheapest webshops. Quite poor service. Other stuff I buy in local shops, but the difference in price for the components just was too big.

This is what my PC turned out to be;
Nexus Prominent 5
Nexus 430 PSU
Z77 D3H Mobo
i3 33225 CPU
HD4000 internal GPU
Skythe mugen 3 CPU cooler
(M-Audio audiophile 2496)
4 HDD's
1 SSD

Quite pleased so far. Only thing I "need" to do is check if my OS-supplier has a 64bit version
