GA-890GPA-UD3H Cooling Fan problem

  So I have a "GA-890GPA-UD3H" which I have had for a number of yrs and is a Great Board. My question is I just installed a "COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus" with two 120mm fans. One is hooked up through the cpu 4 pin fan socket and the other fan is plugged into the Power fan 3 pin socket. My pc runs 24/7 and about every 12 to 24 hrs I get a windows pop up indicating the my cpu fan is failing and I need to shut down immediately. I am running Windows 764bit,with 8gb G-skill ram memory,currently a 3 core Athlon 3.2Ghz cpu but have a Phenom 2  x6 3.3Ghz ready for install. Some friends had said I should try using a "Y coupler" and run both fans off the cpu socket. (Both 120mm fans are COOLER MASTER) one came w/the cooler and the other is a aftermarket. In the BIOS I have the cpu warning temp set at 70c - 158f ,cpu fan warning - disabled,system fans 1 & 2 - disabled,power fan fail warning - disabled,cpu smart fan control - enabled,current system temp at 32c,cpu temp at 20c. I figure if the temps get too hot that the mobo will shut itself down (I could be wrong though). With the side panel off  in the BIOS I see that the cpu fan speed drops to " 0" from 881 rpm and the power fan speed is at 2000 rpm. Any help and or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like it is a problem with the fan sensor and it is detecting it as failing at certain times. Whether it is only you can decide. You could supply them both direct from the PSU which would mean that they would run at top speed all the time or install a fan controller and use that to alter the speed. Make sure that you are running the latest BIOS if you want to continue to use the fan headers on the motherboard.

I have a Nine Hundred from Antec. Original and first version.

So the fan in this case have not posibility to controlled by SpeedFan.
Because each fan have a independant control like minimum-middle-full range button option.

I agree Dark Mantis about a use one of those computer case temperature-controlled fan panels.

Have you tried ''Y coupler" and run both fans off the cpu socket?

What is the difference between system fans 1 & 2 - Disabled and Enabled, in Bios? In your situation... of course.

What is the temp in local area around computer?

Have you a picture about your mounting fan in tower... why not...  



Look my picture of 900 Antec with cpu rad (but not with fan... for less noise).

Probably too late a reply, but I know what is causing the problem.

the hyper 212 evo is supposed to come with pwm 4 pin fan, if you have a 3 pin fan, then ignore all of above, the only thing you need to do is select
voltage fan control in bios

----

Basically sounds like the cpu fan control header (either via bios control of software control) isn't controling the pwm cpu fan correctly.  This will not be fixed with a Y coupler.  Most likely scenario is that it is not detecting the fan correctly and trying to using voltage control instead of pwm.

1st step

make sure you are not runing speedfan, as you want bios to control cpu fan speed
if you were running speed fan make sure the pwm1,2,3 are set to hardware control in advanced menu, then uninstall speedfan
go into bios and change cpu fan type to PWM, press F10 to save changes

if cpu fan speed still to gets reduced to zero rpm then try

2nd step change the cpu fan profile to normal (I assume you had it on silence)

if cpu fan speed still to gets reduced to zero rpm then try

3rd step change to manual cpu smart fan profile with a high slope

if cpu fan speed still to gets reduced to zero rpm then try

4th step disable cpu smart fan control on bios so it runs at a fixed speed
