G1 sniper M3 rev 1.0
« on: November 08, 2012, 03:23:54 pm »
This board has a black heat sink to left of CPU socket which is located with two spring loaded catches this was not seated correctly .
Should I just re-seat by pushing the plastic posts until they lock if so do I need to use and seating or heat transfer paste

Help Urgent am now building the PC.

Hi Graceman

I have noticed the same isue on my board and so I removed the heatsink to have a proper look. It isn't a problem as Gigabyte has used thermal pads for the TIM  between the chips and the heatsink and so any movement will be just taken up again when the springs are released. Just make sure that the spring loaded posts are properly seated through the board and everything should be fine.

No problem! I quite understand where you are coming from and it is a bit unnerving when the heatsink starts wobbling around. It should be fine but I must admit I would rather see it fixed down firmly onto the motherboard rather than these spring loaded posts.
