I bought a new GA-G41M-Combo which supports both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, together with two 4GB Kingmax DDR3 modules to use with my Core 2 Quad Q8200. I installed everything, turned it on, and it wouldn't POST. Instead I get a long string of short beeps, apparently indicating a power related error. Having conducted some tests, I believe it's a memory issue since it managed to boot just fine with a single old 2 GB Kingmax DDR2-1033 module.
I tried it out with both 4 GB modules at once, and with each of them alone, in both DDR3 memory sockets. Every time I get the same result. I tried searching the forum for a similar problem, but I couldn't find any.
This thread seemed like it could hold some answers, but I can't even get to BIOS to change the RAM settings. I can do it when I boot with DDR2, and I tried setting the values according to Brimac's suggestion (although I can only choose between 2.00b and 2.40b for SPD when I do it that way), then saving, powering off, switching the RAM module and powering on, but I still get the same string of beeps and nothing more.
Now, before you ask, those modules are not on the official memory support list, but many working modules aren't. It's a possibility, of course, and so is a motherboard with faulty DDR3 slots, but I'd like to explore other options before outright returning the RAM. Any help is greatly appreciated.
