BIOS update issue
« on: December 14, 2012, 12:14:48 pm »
Hi
I have a GA-X58-USB3(rev. 1.0) board running BIOS Ver F2 - had problems with the NVIDIA card and was advsied to update the BIOS using @BIOS.  Did this and BIOS updated to F4 ok but windows 7 wont start - stop error 0x0000007b.   I have tried changing the settigns for the drive in the BIOS - used RAID, ATA and ACHI - everytime i get the same stop error when loading windows.  booted from windows CD and tried to do repair - still same error

i dont know what BIOS settings were for the hard drive before the update - i just know its 2 SATA drives mirrored - when BIOS is set to RAID I get an error saying bootmanager is missing

really appreciate any help

thanks
Sue

If it's a mirror the BIOS needs to be set to RAID.  You may need to go into the RAID setup and create the mirror again.

the computer was working fine (2 x 1.5Tb drives in raid) but getting occasional NVIDIA errors - NVIDIA recommended upgrading the BIOS to current version - Gigabyte told me to do this using @BIOS - since then cannot boot into windows 7

In the BIOS I set this to RAID and selected first boot drive as hard drive

booted to the windows 7 DISK and ran repair and chkdsk (lots of errors)

now ive broken the array and removed one of the drives - array at boot shows as degraded

windows 7 still wont boot and now just getting flashing cursor....argh....

go into the RAID setup utility (ctrl+i) and rebuild the array.

OK just re-connected the second drive - went into Control I and raid showing as Status rebuild - volumes with rebuild status will be rebuit within the operating system

my options are

create RAID volume
delete RAID volume
reset disks to none raid
recovery volume options (enable only recovery disk or enable only master disk)

so which option to take to rebuild array without losing data?

on another note i tried to install version F3 of the BIOS from boot USB stick
using QFLASH and also FLASHSPI - in both cases I am getting a file size incorrect error - have downloaded this 3 times now from the Gigabyte web site....

just argh......any help much much appreiciated

thanks

issue closed.....thanks to all that replied

I am re-installing windows (not good but solution at least)

re the below issue and error - I had version F4 on the BIOS and this file size was larger than F3 Bios file size - you cant go backwards!  I ended up installing F5C
