P55-UD3R Start/Stop issue

P55-UD3R Start/Stop issue
« on: January 05, 2010, 10:28:39 pm »
Hi

Just bought P55-UD3R Mobo and an i5 2.66GHz processor with 6GB of Cosair xms3 DDR3, i have an Artic 700watt PSU
Bolted it all together and when you press the power switch it comes on (PSU fan runs) for around a second then switches off, then on again and off.

Any ideas? tried a 500watt PSU too, same effect. So far I've tried:
*Taking out RAM
*disconnecting Hard Drive and Blu Ray
* using just the 20 way connector on the PSU
* using the 20 + 4 way PSU connectors
* 20 way plus an adaptor on the 8 way

All to no avail, stumped, don't have another DDR3 Mobo to try processor or Memory on, so bit stuck
Any help welcome

Thanks
Phil

Not much help from me but info on similar problem with GA-P55A-UD4 and i7 860
My build would just try to start just  as yours and I had not connected the 8pin power as I read in manual for mobo that that was for Intel Extreme (130W)
I attached the 8 pin and now it starts just fine. Now I have a modular PSU ( bequiet dark power 450W) so I have a separate 8pin power cable.
This means I have all 24 pins connected in the mian ATX connector plus a separate 8pin.
You mention an adaptor for the 8pin power. Maybe that is the problem.
Wish you luck and more replies.

Thanks SoloTurbo, sounds like I'll be buying a new PSU :( Hopefully that will sort it, but have to wait and see.

Any other suggestions most welcome

Thanks

Hi

Have checked out some PSU's and found that the one I have probably had the Molex to 8pin convertor with it, as it's still a current model, hopefully try it again this evening, but not convinced this will work

Help!!! :)
Thanks
Phil
