GA-A55M-DS2 (2.2): is supporting HyperX Genesis KHX1600C9D3K2/4GX at 1600Mhz

Hi,

Is someone has successfully running the Kingston HyperX Genesis KHX1600C9D3K2/4GX 4Gb DDR3 CL9 240 pins at 1600MHz on a  GA-A55M-DS2 (Rev 2.1/2.2) motherboard? Is it a special setup to do in BIOS for using it at 1600 MHz rather than 1333 MHz, like upper the voltage, upgrade BIOS rev or changing the memory timing?

Thank You,

Daniel

On all 1600 ram you have to manually set the timing to 1600. Amd defaults it to 1333. Those modules are close enough to what is on the QVL you shouldnt have a problem. Id set timings manually and set then to unganged then if it runs good you can try to set them to ganged if that is what you prefer.

Thanks a lot Autotech for your answer.

Yes this RAM is on the Gigabyte QVL, but I realized after I bought my components that this
list is not specific to only one motherboard but to all Gigabyte motherboards.
On that list I saw dual, triple and maybe four channels but GA-A55M-DS2 has only 2 DDR3 sockets

After I scanned the Internet (before I post this thread) the only few peoples that report
using GA-A55M-DS2 motherboard and showing their setup use AMD Entertainment Edition DDR3
(Not on the QVL) and they said that the BIOS detect it correctly at 1600 MHz.
This is probably because AMD DDR3 is running at 1.5v instead of 1.65v like Kingston DDR3 does.

I have not installed the RAM yet, because I hope to get feedback from someone that has
tested Kingston DDR3 at 1600 MHz on the GA-A55M-DS2, specifically those running at 1.65v
like the HyperX Genesis does. Otherwise I have two options:

1. Trying myself different DDR3 settings at risk to break something.
2. Exchange the RAM by another one that it's really supported, but which one? The
AMD Entertainement Edition is now tough to find.

Thanks

I finally tested the Kingston Genesis DDR3 dual channel KHX1600C9D3K2/4GX on the GA-A55M-DS2 motherboard with A4-3400 APU and I ran it at 1600 MHz.

As Autotech mentioned, at the first boot BIOS reported DDR3 running at 1333 MHz. Into the BIOS [MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.)] I discovered under [DRAM E.O.C.P] some predefined setting for running DDR3 at 1600 MHz or higher. I posted this question only because the motherboard manual has not fully documented this option. I also put the DDR3 voltage to 1.65v to respect the memory specs. The memory are set interleave. I have not found the DCT’s mode option under [DRAM configuration] for changing the ganged. It is probably unganged by default.

The system runs well, whatever BIOS reporting “system voltage not optimized” (flashing in red), so I have not changed the DDR3 timings yet. It is at their default values:
            SPD:    9-9-9-24-5       160ns
            AUTO:    11-11-11-29-6      160ns

According to the Kingston data sheet, memory was tested at 9-9-9-27 110ns but they don’t talk about others settings.
Is it safe to change the 24 by 27?
