I've tried two different versions of the USB 3.0 front panel linked below - the manuf. switched - and in each case the left port has worked and the right hasn't. With the first, it sometimes foreced a restart; with the second, it's not being read at all. Since I received these eight months apart and the design is different (the first had a single cable, unlike the Amazon photo), and only one other person of about 40 have reported this problem, it's time to wonder if it could be the mobo. Short of another computer, which I don't have, any easy way to figure it out? Diagram from the manual below. Thanks.
