ga-78lmt-s2p RAM issue
« on: December 28, 2012, 09:13:09 am »
Hey all, I am currently having trouble using 2x8GB sticks of Patriot G2 1333mhz ram with my ga-78lmt-s2p board, revision 5. It states online that I can use up to a maximum of 16gb of memory. Whenever I use a single stick of the 8gb ram. it works just fine and I can start windows and access my BIOS but when I put both in, it just gives me a black screen after the BIOS start screen. Its not the sticks themselves that are bad, as I have tested them individually and work fine. Likewise, the voltages of each sticks is 1.5V, within the accepted range of the motherboard. I tried running the @BIOS program to update it, and it ran just fine but didnt fix anything. If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on an AMD Phenom II x4 3.0ghz processor (I think), along with a brand new Nvidia 560 TI and obviously, the 8gb of Patriot G2 1333mhz ram. Thanks ahead of time for any help!!

Have you tried the sticks that work in both memory slots on the mobo?!

This may be related .Few weeks ago had a strange issue too.Swapped the 8 gigs of Corsair memory from the 890 based rig to the 970A-UD3 and the screen was black at boot with long beeps.I have moved the sticks to the other slots available and it booted.Prior to this using 2X2G sticks in any of the slots with not problems on the same mobo.
Make sure you are installing the sticks properly and that the locks pop into place when inserting.

If each of the sticks works by itself in any memory slot on the mobo then maybe you need to RMA or buy another motherboard.
Check the CPU for proper installation as well ,re-seat it.
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150

Thanks for the speedy response! Well, I just took both sticks out and plugged them in just to be sure that they were in correctly, and I get the same response; just a black screen after the BIOS menu is shown. I dont think its the processor at fault here, and I've just about given up on this board.
