990FX Sound issue (crackling/static)

990FX Sound issue (crackling/static)
« on: January 18, 2013, 11:12:24 pm »
Hey guys. I've came across a crackling/static problem with my motherboard sound (as have many i've noticed).

Now... When i have my Creative Fatal1ty Sound Blaster card in it crackles WAY worse then the onboard sound.
The onboard crackles every now and again, but i havent gained any ground on solving the problem & i've done so much to try to troubleshoot.

Installed old & new sound drivers.
Updated Bios
Updated Motherboard drivers
Uninstalled Windows Media Player & replaced it with winamp

I've seen people talk about Nvidia graphic audio being a possible problem, but no one confirmed a fix.
If you guys have any tips or just ANYTHING that could possibly help. PLZ PLZ post! lmao
Should i just RMA?!?!?!

RIG:
Windows 7 32bit
Gigabyte 990FX UD3 rev 1.0
4gigs crucial RAM
AMD 8120 STOCK CLOCK SPEED
Nvidia 250 GPU

Hi there,

crackling, static, audio dropouts etc., can be very frustrating to resolve as they can be caused by many factors. Hardware/software conflicts for resources, hardware used, system configuration, cable routing, bad programming of software and many other variables, so there is probably not going to be a quick fix to resolve this issue.

You could download Latency Tester from here: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml and see if you are getting any major spikes as this could give an indication of the best place to start looking.

If you are trying to run both the on-board sound and the Creative card, disable the on-board chip to see if that makes a difference.

Try running a live version of Ubuntu. If it is a hardware issue then you will still have the same problem within this environment. If it is not present then you can narrow your search to Windows, driver conflicts, and the programs you are using.

If you are prepared to do so, do a clean install of Windows, add the basic drivers one at a time rebooting after each has installed and test your system as you go. If it is the NVidia drivers causing the problem this would show up pretty quickly.

If the problem shows up only when you are doing certain things, such as watching YouTube videos, try changing your Internet browser.

Not sure if any of this will help or if you have already tried these things but hopefully, we can get this sorted for you.

Thank for the reply!

I downloaded the latency tester & this is what it tells me.

"Some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams. To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc."

I'm working on disabling drivers to pin point my problem. Hopefully its not windows. lmao.

Yep, that would be the little devil. I Don't install any of the Utility Software for any of my hardware because of such issues.

Pleased you got it sorted and, if you wish to O/C or tweak things, it is better to do so via the BIOS as it eliminates these sort of problems.

This is strange ,periodically the Gigabyte BIOS-es release notes  say: fixed issues with ET(6)  :)

I wouldn t overclock with that thing ,use the BIOS and make sure when you do overclock to turn off C1 ,C6 or some other "goodies".There is no place for power saving when you increase clocks ,you want the most out of the CPU.
C1 should be OFF at all times when it comes to keep the sound quality. It s the first thing i turn off in any new build.
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150
