GA-990fxa-ud3 unstable

GA-990fxa-ud3 unstable

ive been using the same processor and graphics card from my old ga ma770 ds3p mobo and i recently replaced it with the ga 990fxa ud3 so i could grab a bulldozer when it comes out.

Im really having issues here my processor which was stable as all hell before on my old board is no longer stable now. Ive ran mem test for 8 hours no errors to elimate memory problems.

My specs are as is-
coolermaster silent pro 1000w psu 80+bronze
corsair vengeance ddr3 1866@ 1366 1.5v 9-9-9-24
phenom II 955 be stock settings
gigabyte 6950 2gig
2 wd caviar 320gig hd in raid 0

Random instabilities during prime95 blend tests and instability. Im using bios version f3g and no luck. ive reformatted reinstalled w7 64 ultimate twice. Ive reinstalled and made sure all drivers were clean. I ran 8 hours of memtest during boot and no errors.

The minute i get into windows and run mem test or prime blend or small ffts or amd ovedrive stability tests i get errors. ITs random too sometimes itll run for 4 or 5 hours sometimes theyll fail in minutes. Ive tried all the beta bioses from f2 to f3b,c,f, ad now g and i cant eliminate the cause. the error messages are all random from the blue screens.

Im really dissapointed with this board as gigabyte has always done me well since i switched from buying asus products. Im about to return this board though seeing as the ud5 and ud7 have more attention and this board seems to be ignored with its really bad bios. Half the time unless you mash the delete button from the usb keyboard you don't even get in. The v droop is rediculous. I have to set my ram voltage to 1.54 to get 1.5 and the cpu v dropp is not fun either.

Any suggestions or updates to the bios that might actually make this board keepable? I love the layout and loved my past gigabyte boards but this is just annoying. O ps my cpu is watercooled with an xspc rasa kit and i have no temp issues whatsoever, and also have a coolermaster 932 case with plenty of airflow.

The system was rock stable before.

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like it is probably just a flaky bopard but just in case try clearing the CMOS in case it has old settings left over form testing or something.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Sorry if I seem to be resurrecting an old thread, but I am having practically the same problem. In my case, it's with overclocking. Below is a list of my specs:

Mobo: GA-990FXA-UD3 R3.0
CPU: Phenom II X2 555/X4 B55
GPU: Powercolor HD 7770
PSU: FSP Hexa 500W
Case: Thermaltake V4 Black

I don't wanna go into the story of how I got to the point of my problem, as I've detailed it in many other forums (to no avail). To make a long story short: the UD3 absolutely FORBIDS me from running my 555 unlocked to 4 cores. I've done practically everything I believe possible (some of it not totally recommended for long-term operation): I've ramped the CPU voltage up +300mV, tried raising NB freq. up to 2600MHz (at 2800 I need to bump the voltage up +100mV which leads to a BSOD as I'm guessing the heatsink isn't doing a very good job of things), kept everything else strictly on Auto settings.

I just bought this board, and from day 1 I've been totally disappointed with it. What's worse, I can't RMA it because a) I'm in the Philippines and b) it's a problem related to OCing, in other words the board works (but in a very inefficient way) at stock settings. This is my first mobo from Gigabyte. I really want to love it, but the way things look, it will also be my last.

No manufacturer warrants overclocking.
The unlocking is an option.
The boards with AMD 8xx and 9xx chipsets have issues unlocking. Most successful Phenom unlocks are made with AMD 7xx chipset based mobos.

NB heat can be minimized by using lower NB voltage (~ 1,000 V) in BIOS.

Along reviving an old topic you have also posted in wrong area of the forum ,overclocking forum is here ->  http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/board,51.0.html
