is Intel H61 chipset affected by the Sata (B3) issue?
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:54:55 pm »
I dont know if anyone is aware or remembers but P67 boards in 2011 were affected by dodgy chipset which meant that your HDD could fail, these issues were addressed and boards re-released as B3 STEPPING which meant the problems had been fixed, now Asus and MSI list some of the H61 boards as B3 STEPPING , ive read someone say that ALL intel series 6 chipsets were affected (P67, H67, H61) - but Gigabyte dont advertise as B3 - when i got my dads P67 Gigabyte board in 2011 it was advertised as B3 STEPPING which meant it was void of the defective chipset.

iam wondering if:

A) H61 is a newer version of 6 series which isnt affected and doesnt need the B3 logo and MSI/Asus are just putting it on for good measure?
B) H61 is affected but gigabyte no longer advertise B3 because you can not buy the affected boards anymore?
C) H61 is affected, and you can still buy the affected boards, and gigabyte still sell them?

guess Iam gunna have to email Gigabyte

I personally think its possibly that H61 is affected BUT you can no longer buy the affected boards, all boards gigabyte sell are not affected and therefore do not need to be declared as B3 or otherwise

I want to buy the Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V or other cheaper H61 board but no retailers list Gigabyte H61 boards as B3 STEPPING? yet if I go on ASUS website and look at their H61 boards you get nothing but B3 in your face..lol

wil this board have the defective chipset?

thanks

Yeah, I remember that very well, IIRC, only the P67 chipsets were affected.  All other 6x boards don't have the issues.  I thought it was redundant for boards to advertise B3 on non-P67 since they didn't have the issue to begin with.

well after much googling it seems that most people say it was all 6-series chipsets?

edit: from intels website

Intel-branded desktop boards based on H61 SKU of Intel® 6 Series Express Chipsets have not gone into production with B2 stepping and are not affected by this issue. This includes DH61CR, DH61BE, DH61WW, DH61DL and DH61AG
