System reboots when trying to load windows 7

System reboots when trying to load windows 7
« on: March 05, 2013, 08:04:53 pm »
Hi All
I've just rebuilt my pc using a Z77X-D3H with a i5-3470, 4x4gb DDR3 1600 and a HD7870 g/card. System has a 700w power supply.
Tried installing a new version of windows 7 on a sata hd and the system hangs after loading files. Used my old m/b to install a clean version of windows 7 and tried that in but the system just reboots.I've tried swapping the memory around and its the same, bios recognises the memory ok
Any ideas ?

Try checking your RAM with MemTest86 3.5b. It might be defective.

Is your 700Watt PSU a known major brand or a generic chinese one? A generic one might tell that it's 700Watt but actually it wouldn't be able to sustain the needed Amperes and Watts that a GPU like the HD7870 requires.

hi I've removed the g/card to take it out of the equation and also tried my old 1950 g/card and also the onboard card and still the same. I think the memory is ok as i've tried lots of combinations, also tried my old ddr from my old system.

Did you say the computer reboots on it's own or are you rebooting it. Just try two sticks of memory.

I build a computer for somebody and I know it was a EVGA Z77 board but they are having trouble with the memory controller with 4 sticks of memory installed.

X299X Aorus Master, i9-9940x-3.30Ghz, 64gb G-Skill DDR4-2400, MSI RTX-3070 8GB, Cooler Master case, Thermal-take PSU 850w, 1-M2-NMVe SSD-512gb, 3-Pny 1TB SSD, 2-WD Raptors 1TB, Win 10 pro 64bit, Asus 35" 144Mhz Monitor.

Did the RAM modules pass MemTest86 3.5b without errors ?

I installed plenty of Gigabyte Z77 boards with the latest BIOS and they are rock solid.
Unless your board is defective.

Did you check the hard disk ? Do a full sector-by-sector scan with the utility provided by the manufacturer on their website.

Only after having checked RAM being defective free and hard disk defective free you could think about the DVD or Blu-Ray drive being the culprit.
