low end original cpu for GA-M720-US3 motherboard?
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:59:39 pm »
Hello
I'm trying to do my first build. I've bought a really cheap GA-M720-US3 motherboard and I'm trying to find the compatible CPU for it. The Gigabyte compatibility page just lists the latest CPUs (I think) that need flashing of the BIOS. I'm a newbie and don't want to do this.

How do I find out what lower end CPUs are compatible without having to upgrade the BIOS? Is there any way of finding out the original motherboard & CPU? Is there a website dedicated to this?

I'm guessing the motherboard is set at F1 BIOS? So I would need a CPU compatible with F1 BIOS - ie original CPU?

The computer would just be for web browsing anyway and it's just an experiment at this stage anyway.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I would say since bios version F-2 If it had a bios F-1 it would show it on the page. I have an GA-890fx-udh5 and on it's page it list the bios version it was shipped with F-1 and then goes from there so if that board had a F-1 it would show it. If i am wrong someone with more knowledge than me i am sure will post.
