X79 G1 Assassin 2, possible to use WOL (Wake on LAN)?
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:52:21 pm »
Hi, I've looked everywhere in the bios but this feature is not there, seeming with a lot of other missing features.

Is it possible to still get WOL working with the Bigfoot Killer NIC on this board?

Can't Gigabyte add it in to one of the beta bios's?

Which motherboard or bios are you using as it's not in my bios (F11).

See here and go to 9.00 mins  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUNHnqJoc40

I have the same bios as this. Nothing for WOL.

I have 2 X79 boards. You would think on standard stuff they would be the same. I normally download the book and look at it.

But you would think that the X79 board family would be kind of the same. That is a feature that most people don't use.

That is maybe why Gigabyte has taken it out. On some of the boards. On both of mine they have that feature X79-UD3 & X79-UD4.

You would think that board what cost more than $100 than mine would have all the bells & whistles.

Plus if you add a add-on card I don't think that is going to work either. I might be wrong but that feature has to be on the MB.

For really any nic or onboard land card WOL to work. You could call Gigabyte and ask them if the Bigfoot Killer NIC will do the job.

I went and look at the card and I didn't see that feature on the card. That does kind suck does it.

You can say that again.

I emailed the makers of the Bigfoot Killer Nic and replied that WOL is not supported due to the power requirements. I will see if another NIC will allow me to do it though that involves me having to loose the Wifi and Bluetooth as my GTX670 covers the other PCIe x1 slot.

I know this board is gamer orientated but the Bigfoot Killer NIC hardly adds anything to the package. You definitely won't see notice any speed increase for online gaming. It doesn't support Jumbo packets and it doesn't support WOL. They would have been better off just putting an Intel NIC in.
