GA-X79-UD5 not booting with 850w psu

GA-X79-UD5 not booting with 850w psu
« on: March 27, 2013, 10:50:22 am »
So I got this strange problem with this motherboard. I can get it to boot up with 660w lc-power psu but not with OCZ 850w  :o

With ocz fans spin up for a second and then it shutsdown, any idea what could cause that???!!??

cpu is i7-3820 and I just updated the bios to f13p this morning. all other components work perfectly and ocz too in another system.

I also got ga-x79-ud3 that works with ocz 850w just fine.......

Do you have the plug seated all the way in. Does the 660 have a 4 pin cpu plug or a 8 pin plug.

Most of the time when the computer boots like that it has to do with the CPU power.

Why do I ask about the 660 and 4 & 8 pin plug. Do you have the two PSU plug in the same way.

Everything is plugged in correctly and both psu have 8-pin connector. It is very strange....

OCZ is "famous" to not to be compatible with some GB boards.

Yeah it seems to be compatibility problem since I have switched between power units like 10 times today and it always works with
the 660w one...

So any recommendations for a new unit between 800-1000w range that is compatible?  ;D

This the one I run on my Ga-x79-UD4: In Win Glacier 900 Watt Power Supply

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/InWin/Glacier_900W/

I have had this one in both the x79 boards. Plus you see what I'm  running on that board in my signature.

I'm running ultra 750 on my other x79 board. That thing is like 6 yrs old and still running great.

Just go with a good top of the line PSU. Seasonic, SilverStone, Cooler Master, Corsair, Thermaltake.
