board will not clear cmos
« on: April 28, 2013, 11:31:09 pm »
I built a computer with a GA-F2A85x-UP4 motherboard and an amd processor. I run windows 8 (which I hate) and use the firefox browser. The problem started when I updated firefox and it crashed my computer making it so that it wouldn't load windows. I read up on some stuff talking about changing some stuff in the BIOS so I made a few changes thinking that if I messed up I could press this button and get back to the default values.

The only thing I changed was the section about where to boot which I changed a few to EFCI ONLY. when I restarted the computer nothing happened but some lights came on and the fans. I tried to clear cmos (while powered down) and nothing changed.I tried the button and the jumper at the bottom of the board but nothing changed.

The computer was fine until it wouldn't load windows and I changed the settings in the BIOS. my biggest concern is to at least get back to the BIOS screen at this point and figure out the os problem after that.

Remove power cord and disconnect power supply from the board ,remove battery for a day.
Remove the HDD also.It may be broken or infected with some rootkit.
Have you downloaded Firefox from a trusted site ?!

What power supply are you using and what FM2 APU ?
What is the rest of the configuration ?
Were you overclocking ?
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150

AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 APU

evga 600w psu (nex750B)

evga geforce gtx 670 graphics card

16g ddr3 (4x4) mushkin ram

no overclocking but I did turn on the boost in the bios. The computer worked fine for 4 months until the issue with firefox and the bios screen loaded up until I changed a few settings. I'll disconnect everything and try again tomorrow.

There should be enough power ,but the usage of 4 RAM sticks could be tricky.

After you let it clear itself install only one RAM module. You should in fact test them all.I would go for a kit with 2 modules myself for the future.Bad /incompatible RAM can make the BIOS go nuts.

I personally observed strange issues with my Gigabyte FM2 board caused by the LLC Auto settings ,right from the start.
Otherwise i can up my 5600K to 4,2Ghz/900Mhz/NB 2000Mhz easily.

Another observation would be the Windows 8 usage , it can cause problems with the 5800K due to the way it does power management in some scenarios.

A little off , what scores are you getting in Basic 3DMark 11 with that APU and the Nvidia video card ?!
Is the CPU side of the APU feeding enough the 3-rd party GPU ?!

For some reason I had to remove my graphics card. When I did that and started it up it gave me the ability to reset to defaults from there but didn't do it automatically. Not sure if I did something wrong or not but I got it going. Now I need to figure out why windows won't boot, I think its a bad Hard drive Because it's not acknowledging that there is even one in the computer. Thanks for your help.

Rebuild the system on a card-board /wooden surface with only the basic components :CPU, RAM and video ; then see what happens.
The HDD will not show in BIOS if AHCI is on.
