USB 3.0 Front Panel NOT working on GA-990FXA-UD3
« on: May 04, 2013, 12:41:40 am »
Recently I upgraded my computer with a new GA-990FXA-UD3 (vis.1) and today decided to install a multi port front panel with USB 3.0 port. The reason why I bought this front panel is because it uses a USB 3.0 contact which I plugged into the motherboards avail USB 3.0 slot.

Following the very simple instructions from the manual, it was simply a plug & play install BUT nothing works.

So searching the internet I've seen that I had to update my drivers.
The drivers that I installed are
1) "motherboard_driver_etron_usb3"
2) "mb_bios_ga-990fxa-ud3_f9"
3) "mb_driver_marvell_sata_91xx"

After these installs I confirmed that both the front and rear USB 3.0 BIOS commands are enabled.

Reboot.

But still after repeatedly installing the drivers and checking the BIOS, I still can't get the front USB3.0 slot to work. There's no power what so ever there, if there was power then the power indicator light would light.

Please, I've searched the internet, searched here and still can't find a solution as to why the front USB 3.0 slot is not powering up. Can anyone here shed some light on this frustratingly simple install.

Many thanks in advance,
Tuko.

Are you sure you use the USB 3.0 header on your mobo?
Btw, the ETRON driver is important for usb .. nothing else

I've the v3 board using the blue connector on the back for my external usb3 HDD and it works nicely - however, be aware that the full speed is not achievable with ordinary file copy hence copying directory level is slow but copying a 3gig zip file moves >200MB/s

Yes, the Internal connector is clearly marked F_USB30 and is the only 20 pin slot that the cable can slot into.

You have the latest bios (F9) flashed?

After some testing here with the internal card reader I can confirm the the USB3.0 slot in the new internal card reader does work BUT absolutely none of the card slots work.

I can plug in my camera to the card reader and the USB3.0 slot works by finding the camera. I remove the camera and take out the card then insert it into the avail slot in the card reader and nothing. Not at any time does any of the lights for the card reader flash/blink.

FYI the internal card reader that I installed is RaidSonic ICY BOX IB-865.

Any more suggestions ? In the mean time thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming.

Provided all is plugged in correctly looks to me the box is a dud - try it in other pc or return it.
Does it need a driver for windows?

No drivers at all, it was a plug & play installation.
