Z77X- UP4 TH Boot issue

Hello guys! Just wanna ask for some help because I'm having problem with my PC right now, when I shut down my PC its very hard to boot it again.. I need to remove the cmos battery, reseat again the rams to make it boot but it's not 100% that it would work..

I also tried flashing the bios from the older version to the updated version even the beta bios.I was able to boot my PC using an old kingston memory but I doubt that my crucial memory is bad because it passed the memtest last day..

MOBO: GIGABYTE Z77X-UP4 TH
GPU: MSI GTX 660Ti Power Edition
COOLER: NZXT x60 Kraken
SSD: Plextor PX-M2P 256GB
HDD: Hitachi 1TB
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer DDR3-1866 16GB
PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550w

Only thing i notice that i would chage is that PSU. Not that it is that bad of a PSU but it is known to have excess 12v ripple. If you have another to try out that would be great or if possiable you can switch yours to be a single 12v rail which might help. Otherwise your memory isnt on the approved list which take it for what it is worth half of what i use isnt eiter but i dont use ballistic tracers either.

Just a couple of suggerstions report back what results are.

Unfortunately, I don't have extra PSU and also I tried to switched to single 12v rail but no good

I'm using now the old Kingston mems to boot it..

I usually use Q-Flash to update my bios and it just happen today that I'll just want to try the @Bios software but it giving me now BSOD

when I hit the "OK" Button

I'm not trying to start anything but, In most cases, multiple +12V rails are actually just a single +12V source just split up into multiple +12V outputs each with a limited output capability.

It might be the memory. I had a Gigabyte board that ran for almost a year. One day it did the same thing.

Change the memory and as far as I know that computer is still running with that memory today.

Plus I'm not saying this is the problem but that CPU only supports up DDR3-1333/1600 memory.

I know that it says that you can run the higher memory.

I think DM might be onto something there try changing the ram to 1600 to see if it will boot. 1600 ram speed with tighter timings will usually run better than higher speed as in 1866 with looser timings.  Since you dont have a spare PSU and it does boot with the other ram i think dm has a point. Some ram just wont work with certain boards. Post back any results and i am sure others will post suggestions.  Me myself i would get ram off the QVL just to prove if it was the ram or board. Betting it is the ram as it runs fine with other memory.

I was able too boot my PC by removing the CMOS Battery and reseating again and again and again the mems with the default timings of 9-9-9-24 .. but for sure if I will turn off again the PC it will took me again several hours to boot it..Already tried your suggestion and I'm just waiting for an important call today and I will try to shut down my PC if it will work..I adjusted the timings to 8-8-8-24 1600 now..

You didn't say if you are running two sticks or four. Try just running two sticks. Anything over 1600 you are OC the memory.

When you pull the battery that is why it will reboot because you set your memory back to 1333.

Yes on the site Gigabyte is showing you can run that memory. But they don't tell you how to run it either.

On a Intel board I only change the speed and not the timings. On a AMD board you have to change speed and timings.

Plus jump through hoops too to get it to work.

I'm running 4 sticks..I already tried running 2 sticks but no good, not booting at all..even 1 stick for every dimm slot but no good too...I was just able to boot it by using all the 4 sticks

Hi fourpixel ,

Do you think changing the battery? Maybe she is too old.

Did you try restarting with a single strip of RAM.

If necessary, change the place in another slot.

For Timmings, the more it is low, unless you're in trouble.
