power up post failure ga-p35c-ds3r rev1.1

Symptoms: powers up for 3 seconds then switches off - no beeps (beeps 1/100th of a second, ie a click)


Tried removing battery, shorting cmos jumper, leaving cmos jumper shorted 1 hr, removing ram, removing all pci cards, removing all external devices, removing all hdds, shouting at it


Cause of fault, saving cmos settings at ''default''


Guesses: When cmos settings are saved machine power cycles, in my opinion this happens beforew the save has completed resulting in corrupt settings not corrected by the cmos jumper.

mb has been perfect for 1y 10m, now this!

(well if you ignore the win7 compatability issues with 'sleep')

I doubt that very much, since the BIOS code works like any other; one line at a time, and BIOS code is carefully written to no restart until changes have been properly saved.

Having said that, you have have cleared CMOS, so it could well be that there is corruption. I had (have) and issue with a P35-DS4 that announced the "backup was corrupt" and it took me maybe 30 restarts to get it to "take" and I seem to be getting RAM error galore (I will reflash later)

Hrmm.... your board has Virtual Dual BIOS support, so unless something is very much amiss there should not be the drama you are having.

Has there been no on screen messages at all? It is simply restarting?

Have you added any hardware or software just prior to this fault developing?

I had a problem similar to this once and it turned out to be the motherboard's battery. It may be worth replacing it just to eliminate it as a cause.
