GA-Z87X-UD3H with Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x4GB
« on: July 19, 2013, 12:46:18 am »
Hey everyone, a newbie here, and first-time Gigabyte motherboard owner.  I recently purchased the GA-Z87X-UD3H board and was hoping to purchase the RAM shown here:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233305.

After reviewing the memory compatibility list on Gigabyte's website, I didn't see that the memory listed above was supported, but the 2x4GB or 2x8GB are supported (same 1866 speeds).  I'm wondering if it's safe to go with the 4x4GB route or just stick with two DIMM's?  Not sure why the same RAM with the same speeds with two sticks show as compatible, but four does not.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

have u tried to flash to latest bios to check?
tweaktown forum provides latest bios.

if it still cannot work, it should be compatibilty problem.
you may need to write technical support to gigabyte to solve it.

I don't actually own the RAM yet, was just inquiring about the possible compatibility with this board before purchasing.  I'm building a new system that's going to be fully water cooled and the only components I have to buy still are the 4770K, GTX 770 and RAM.

I appreciate the heads up about the latest BIOS, though!

Personally i'd be wary of using 4 sticks of anything. I have 4 sticks of perfectly good Corsair Vengeance 1600 (that were on the approved RAM list too in a 4 stick configuration) and its never been stable in a D3HP unless I take half the sticks out (even at 1333)

Thanks for the advice.  I just saw the other thread regarding the usage of four DIMMs.  I would love to get the RAM I mentioned in the first post with four sticks, but I may as well play it safe and use 2x8GB.  Watch a BIOS fix come out regarding the issue after I buy the RAM.   ;)

What's interesting, is that the same RAM in 4x4GB shows as being compatible with speeds above 1866 (2400 and 2800).
