GA-X79-UP4 with EVGA GTX 780 not going into BIOS
« on: June 18, 2013, 04:14:54 am »
Hey guys,

I recently finished my build comprised of and intel i7 3930k with the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 mobo, using an EVGA GTX 780.

I am having a problem with entering the BIOS. When I power on the computer it pops up with the Mobo splash screen and whenever I start hitting
"delete", or F9, F12, nothing happens, it just sits there. Then after an entire minute or two the computer boots into Windows. It got to the point to where I had to get a cheap EVGA GT 640 card just to boot into the BIOS in order to install Windows. Now that I have Windows working with my 780 I want to return the 640, but I need to fix my problem first.

My mobo is on the latest non-beta BIOS which is F2. I have done the GTX 780 firmware update from EVGA, but none of those fixed the issue.

It is really frustrating not being able to get into the BIOS without switching the cards out... not to mention having to wait a minute or two for Windows to boot from my SSD...

If you guys could help me out I would certainly appreciate it!

Hi HBlakeH,  ;)

Welcome to forum,

Your problem are caused by speed of computer and graphic cards... I think...

When you press Key for go to Bios... Press just after press button Power on front case....

Before Splash Page logo arrrive...  try it... press many time immediately after push power button On.

Try it....

With these new boards and cards I watch the keyboard. When the cap & numbers lock lights blink I start hitting the del key. If I don't do that it will just go to windows too.

This is what happens unfortunately with the 'early adopter' syndrome. I would say you just need to wait for a Bios update for your board to see the 780 correctly.

It has nothing to do with the new graphics card. It is new and you need a newer bios!

Had the same problem with GTX 770. You need to get into bios with old card (mine was gtx 560ti) and set PCI from EFI ROM to legacy ROM then will work no problem on new card. Sorry can't remember what area of the bios this is in (advanced?).
