990FXA-UD3 Rev 3.0 Questions
« on: July 18, 2013, 12:23:12 am »
Hi. I bought a 990FX-A UD3 motherboard a while back and had a few glaring issues with it that I couldn't get help from with support. I paired it with my slightly older AMD Phenom II x2 555 BE that worked perfect on my older 770T-USB3.

1. When I unlock to three cores (fourth is a dud) why does the BIOS automatically lock it at 2.5 gHz and not budge from there?

2. When setting the RAM to the correct frequency (1600mhz) it keeps bumping it down to 1366mhz. If I try shifting the settings around a bit I just get an error when I restart telling me to fix my settings.

I'm running version FC of the BIOS.

CPU slightly older? it's from 2009 and you just gotta X2 - how about a contemporary CPU perhaps?

did you up ram voltage for 1600 speed? this usually is doing the trick - otherwise check ram compatibility with this mobo.

I can't up the RAM voltage since the options to do so are greyed out. And running it at three cores does work but it ends up making the computer lock up 5-6 hours later even with a Vcore boost +0.100.

RAM voltage can t be greyed out unless you have not read the Motherboard Manual which tells you what you need to know.
Switch the voltages to manual and you will be able to change that.
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2

What about the CPU unlock issue. When I unlock to three cores, computer locks up after a few hours and frequency always remains locked at 2.5ghz even if I try to manually overclock it.

Since you got a v3 board that would mean your sys bios is set to use the XMP profile for ram ( all ram options disabled) - your ram XMP ram? If not disable XMP and set values manually (should be enabled then). If nothing helps you gotta real problem.

Got that fixed. But the other issues are still there. Unlocking (which normally should work as it did with my previous board) seems to make the computer simply lock up or crash, I can now overclock and it won't lock to 2.5ghz anymore now though. It still locks up or shuts down randomly. I have put in an RMA with Gigabyte to see if they can either give me a new board or bump me up a revision to the 4.0 revision (according to the other forums the issues I'm having are mostly fixed in the new revision).

I don't think the RMA will help - get a recent CPU and the problem is fixed... the 555 BE was an oddball anyway and is not even listed on the GA side as compatible.

Be smart ;P

I unfortunately can't afford it but I need the three cores functional for school (and stable). D:

Hmm, $115 here for a FX-4130 (AM3+) and it would blow your ancient 555 out of the water even at stock

up to you ;)

Better off just jumping 50 dollars to the Bulldozers though. But I need to figure out where to get the money even for the 115 dollar one. :c Like this one: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_1210_64&item_id=053295
