Z68X-UD3P B3 (rev. 1.0): doesn't work with Windows 8
« on: September 04, 2013, 03:57:21 pm »
Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so sorry if I did something wrong.
I had this board for a while now sitting in it's box. I needed Windows so I can build my PC. I got Windows 8 (there was a sale on it).
After installing everything seemed to work fine. I started noticing the issues later on:
- my PC can't enter Sleep mode or I will have to restart it
- PC would start only on a few tries, usually 5
I updated my BIOS to F8 from the official website (I didn't want to go with beta BIOS). Update went great, but the issues were still there (although it cut the boot time by quite a bit).
Now the PC won't boot up at all, Windows 8 keeps trying to fix itself and I even reinstalled it, nothing helped. PC boots fine, but after the last boot screen, everything goes crazy.

On a different forum, one guy told me he had the same issue and ended up getting a new board. That's not something I can afford right now. Is there a way to fix this?

I have to ask is it having a problem from a cold boot or only when you are booting into windows.

The funny part of this is I have put this many different mother boards and have never had a problem.

I have read that a lot of people are having problems. The 3 computers that are running Win 8 have no problems at all.

One is a GA-EX58-EXTREME & the other 2 are GA-X58A-UD3R.  One of the GA-X58A-UD3R my son in law plays all the new games one it.

Have you tried the 8.1 preview. It is a free down for now.

It would have to boot up first...
I think there is a BIOS problem. I will try some Beta ones from this forum.

Thanks for all the "help". After googling for about an hour I found out how exactly do I have to update to UEFI U1f and Win 8 seems to be working so far *knocks on wood*.

Nice that you got it to work. But all the boards I have run it on don't use the new UEFI bios.

Plus the windows 8.1 will be a free upgrade when it comes out in Oct.
