Hi all. I'd like to use the S/PDIF coaxial digital audio output on the Gigabyte E350N-WIN8 mini-itx motherboard. I mounted an RCA phono chassis socket on the rear of the case and wired it to the 2 pin S/PDIF header (pin 1 towards centre of board = signal, pin 2 = ground) and then tested it with one of these dinky little DAC's (which I got JUST for testing) :

The system is Win 7 Pro 64 Bit and the 3 available playback devices are Realtek HD Digital Audio Output (the one I need I presume and have therefore selected), HDMI (which is working fine when selected) and Realtek HD Audio Out (the jack sockets), also working. The DAC is working fine on another soundcard on a different machine, both on coaxial and optical digital.
Is there anything else I need to do to enable the S/PDIF output? The manual doesn't mention anything. Just for fun I put headphones on the coaxial digital output and I can definitely hear lots of noise only when I select Digital Audio Output as the playback device so SOMETHING is happening! Am I naïve to think I could just whack a phono socket onto the motherboard header?
