GA-73VM-S2 went up in smoke

GA-73VM-S2 went up in smoke

I had been using this mainboard with just the onboard VGA.  I put in a graphics card 8600GT from another PC.
Then switched on the power supply, and pressed front panel power button. A few seconds later, smoke began spewing forth.
I quickly switched it off.  When I looked at the mainboard, I observed the wide printed circuit track around the front edge of the mainboard was black and blistered. So must have been a real bad short.  The graphics card has nothing burnt out, and can not see anything else inside scorched either. I have probably built 3 dozen PCs, and never saw anything cremated like this before. Had to open the windows to get rid of the stink even thought it was a cold night. So I ditched that graphics card, and everything else except the hard disk in case another board goes up in flames. It had an Antec 380 W power supply, that should have been adequate for the system.

Has anybody seen anything like this before?
