970a-DS3 + black edition
« on: April 02, 2013, 03:05:16 am »
When I go into the bios of my 970a-DS3 I cannot set my multiplier above 16.

I have a phenom 2 555 black edition thats default multiplier is 16.

In the K9A2 CF msi board and asus am3 board I have I was able to change the multiplier higher then I ever wanted.   They were both DDR2.

I wanted to do some testing in DX11 battleforge for 2,3, and 4 cores at different clock speeds.

The bios states its a black edition with and without core unlock enabled and if I underclock, which is nice, my MSI board would make up processor models depending on what clock I set it to.

Is there a known reason the "black" in black edition is being ignored.

I my bios version is FB From 18 October 2012.

I dont want to overclock overclock, just up the ratio to 17 or 18 (3.4-3.6ghz)
By underclocking I have seen that one of my games is very CPU intensive so a little more mhz will go a long way in that one game (MWO).

None of the bios updates seem to fix this (at least not as far as I could tell).

The bios correctly identifies the Phenom2 555 BE CPU, and unlocks cores like a champ, it just wont up the multiplier of my BE like my other boards.

I have run my black edition with an extra core unlocked, on other boards there is an option to set which of the locked cores to unlock.  I cant find how to do this on this board. I
t just sets it to tri core 0,1,2 or quad core 0,1,2,3.   I have no options that I can tell to set it to 0,1,3 if my 2nd core is not as good (core 2 crashs at 3.4ghz, the rest can go higher).

I am kinda latching this other bios setting question with this one so I dont start a new thread when they both might be answered at the same time if they are related.

I still cant figure out how to clock my black edition Phenom2 555 by changing the multiplier to anything above 16x.  It can go lower, but not higher, as if it wernt black edition (I am able to clock it up in my 2 other boards, asus AM3 and a MSI AM2+)

Indeed it's very odd  :-\ Maybe trying to update the bios of your mobo ? And why not testing your 555 on a 990xa/fxa gigabyte friend's mobo in order to see if it works ?

Have you checked these setting in the BIOS? After you make any changes you might have to reboot for the changes to go into affect.

Advanced CPU Core Features

CPU Unlock
Allows you to determine whether unlock hidden CPU cores. (Default: Disabled)

CPU core Control (Note 1)
Allows you to determine whether to manually enable/disable CPU cores. Automatic mode allows the BIOS
to enable all CPU cores (number of cores available depends on the CPU being used). (Default: Automatic
mode)

(Note 1) This item is present only when you install a CPU that supports this feature.
