I have check my two boards and after thinking about it. I do have one of the first x58 boards and that one has a 920 on it.
Yes not having the bios up to date could be a problem. If the CPU on the x58 board went bad yes they might act the same.
Plus one other thing is that the F4 bios. Might give you the same problem that you are having too.
Some people are having problems with that type of bios on the x79 boards. So they have to go with the news Beta bios.
So I thought I give you heads up. Bios F5a -

Thank you for taking the time to look into this for me, i really appreciate it.
I got my x79s-up5-wifi board back from the shops, updated to F4 bios, got it home and all is working well for me.
I shall keep in mind what you say about the F4 bios and keep an eye on the F5
Thank you.

The x58 went bad or the CPU did. The only way you can make sure is have some one test the CPU or get another X58 board for a backup.

I dont know if its the cpu or the board, I suspect the board to be honest.
Since i have upgraded to a socket 2011 system i have not gone back tot he x58 to test that, however i did pickup a x58 board cheap that i will test this weekend perhaps.
