@Bios bricked my motherboard, what do I do now?
« on: November 28, 2013, 11:28:32 pm »
So, I know now never to use @bios but I didn't know that at the time.

Simply put, I ran @bios and now my PC won't boot. It shows the Gigabyte Splash screen then hangs on a black screen forever. This happens whether I let it boot normally or press Any of the F keys (F1, F8, F12 etc) as well as Delete and End.

The motherboard is a GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 3.0). I tried clearing the cmos both with jumpers and the battery method to no avail, as holding the power button down to force a DualBios restore but that didn't seem to work unless I am doing it wrong.

I haven't tried shorting the BIOS chip as I read elsewhere as I don't know what pins to use on my motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated as this is a replacement for a ASRock motherboard that was DOA and I don't have enough money to buy a 3rd replacement while I wait for RMA Refunds.

Hi there,

Sorry to say that there is no really quick solution to this problem and the best advice would be to contact Gigabyte Technical Support here: http://ggts.gigabyte.com/tech.asp?ClassID=2&Country=U.K.&SourceWeb=B2C and arrange for them to sort the problem out for you.

Do not, in desperation, try to short the BIOS pins as this will invalidate your warranty.

The trick with getting the DUAL BIOS to kick in, using the Power off/on method, is as much to do with timing as with luck and it can take several attempts before it will work. I have to say though, that I have found this method to be rather hit & miss with more misses than hits.  :'(
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks for the reply! :D

I did contact them and they told me to clear the CMOS, to no avail.

Is there any other method to force a restore of the backup bios? You'd think there would be. :(

do you have different RAM to try?

The reason I ask is i've just encountered the same problem but it wan't a bad flash.  The BIOS update actually took away compatibility for my RAM so i'm forced to use another brand as I cannot downgrade.

I took the ram out my old PC and gave it a shot. No change.

I Tried the whole PSU flipping thing several times to no avail. Is there a specific trick or timing? Why isn't there just a dern button. :(
