GA-X58A-UD3R Marvell SATA 3 Vs. Intel SATA 2

GA-X58A-UD3R Marvell SATA 3 Vs. Intel SATA 2
« on: January 06, 2014, 07:16:20 pm »
Okay, so I just got a SSD for my build after over three years of owning it and I have a quick question for someone keen on this subject. I installed the SSD on the Marvell ports and got pretty good numbers but I've read everywhere I should be using the Intel ports because they're faster. After using both and running benchmarks on both I'm not sure which one to stick with. The WEI scored it 7.9 for both ports. I used AS SSD and ATTO for benchmarks and I've included a pic....

Do you have the controller set to AHCI on both?

The thing is yes you should run it on the Intel. But if you are using a Sata 3 SSD it should be on the Marvell on that board.

If you had a board that was newer and had both sata 3 port on both controllers. Then you would see better #'s. Yes you would run it on the Intel.

That board was one of the first boards with sata 3 port plus not the greatest one too. Yes you can run it on the Intel ports but it is going to run at sata 2 speed.

yeah, it's a SATA 3 ssd. Seagate 600 240gb. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820248016

So I should use the Marvell port?

Yes that is the only real choice you have that supports sata 3. Plus on the Marvell ports just make sure you are using 6 or 7.

8 & 9 are sata 2. I have had about 6 of these boards. I have one that is like brand new. It just sits on the base floor.

It has 4 OS on it so I can catch up on them if I have too. XP, Vista, Win 7 & Win 8 all 64 bit too.

Plus I'm with another forum Abithelp. We talk about anything and have a lot fun too. Here is a link to a lot of computer on-line stores.

What about TRIM support on the Marvell chipset? Does it support that or is that more of an OS thing. I checked to see if it was enabled through cmd.exe and it said it was working when I had it in the Marvell port but I've read it only supports it in RAID mode and not ACHI mode...
