Gigabyte z87x-ud4h bricked drives?

Hey,

Put together a setup based on z87x-ud4h and to be frank this mobo appears to have bricked our sata 2 drives, drives were:

OCX Vertex 2, 120gb
500gb seagate barracuda (sata2)

After installing these hard drives they don't show up in BIOS and they both now fail to power up at all, they are both of different ages and worked perfectly prior to connecting to this mobo. There was no evidence of short-circuiting, we connected them properly to a top of the line PSU and case, our SATA2 DVD drive still works but intermittently (every other boot). I have never seen anything like this before and find it quite strange.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I have seen only one other forum post on the web where a user had 3 drives bricked so I'm curious if this is happening a lot.

**edit**

To be clear - we connected SATA3 drives after the SATA2 drives were bricked, the SATA3 drives worked perfectly and the setup continues to work perfectly so this rules out persistent motherboard or PSU fault.
